I entirely support the words and sentiments of the petition. When the airwaves are increasingly flooded by various forms of so-called popular music, the CBC2 programming has been a welcome haven of culture and civilisation. How can you give up that in favour of yet more 'popular' cultural silage?!Christopher Barnes
commercial radio provides people with enough non-classical music. Please restore the traditional music programming. Stop canceling classical music programmes or forcing them to play less challenging music.
Once lost, it would prove very difficult to regain lost ground. I support this movement! Let's not lose one of the few remaining milieux for new classical works in Canada.
I am dismayed by and disappointed with CBC's cancellation of excellent classicial music programming and totally opposed to the changes in programming to Radio 2.
We don't need publicly funded radio if it begins to offer only what is already available on for profit channels. The point of the cbc for me is that it offers programming that you cannot find elsewhere. I have no idea why the management at the cbc think the new direction they have mapped out is a good idea. In my opinion, they are simply destroying an institution that many Canadians rely for arts and cultural programming.
The proposed changes to CBC Radio 2, and the ones already begun as oulined in the petition above are distressing to me as a devoted listener. Please consider the public outpouring of dismay, and think again about the proposed changes. We need CBC Radio to be different from commercial radio. Programme excellent music with knowledgeable hosts and the audiences will come.
Hello: I am in complete agreement with the author of this petition. We have more than enough stations which cater to those who prefer rock, pop, country, etc. music. RESTORE OUR GOOD OLD CBC TWO!!!
The most depressing thing about recent CBC changes is the absence of any predictable benefit to the CBC (e.g. a forecast ofincreasing the audience if the programmes alter.) Management appear to be willing to alienate the current audience with no promise of attracting a different and larger audience. It looks like abandoning rationality in CBC management.
One of the pleasures of a long drive is listening to Radio 2. Every other station sounds the same but the CBC has made its programming distinctive ad elegant. Please build on that, not destroy it at the very foundation
The CBC has been under siege for years, first from a Chretien government that didn't like the spotlight the CBC news shone on his government, now from a pack of neo-cons who dislike any government spending if they can get away without. Sickening.
Do not cut classical programming! Do not lower the standards to get down to the listener - up the standards to educate and promote culture. Nation without culture is poor!
It is my hope that CBC will read the letters people have been writing in support of NOT making it just another 'easy listening'non-thinking radio station
Why is the CBC doing this to us, the listeners, and to Canada's musicians. It seems like just anoother step in the sabotage of Canadian culture. Classicial Music means high quality not necessarily
It is also regrettable that the Vancouver-based CBC Orchestra is facing dismantlement in November. The orchestra is one of a very few venues for Canadian composers to gain exposure for new work. Its elimination is a step backward in promoting Canadian culture by a Crown corporation mandated to do just the opposite.
When I drive I want to listen to quality music, this is the only civilized station in the country and do you pop music after 11 pm, because that's when pop people are still up!
Actually, my husband and I have stopped listening to CBC altogether because of the new junk played on this station. It would be nice to be able to turn the radio on again and listen to something better than is programmed now.
