I rely on CBD for classical music programming in my car and at home. I will be very upset and disappointed if my favourite programs such as Here's to You and Disc Drive disappear.
for over 40 years, I have been listening to Radio 2 to hear the best in music. Sadly, that is no longer possible. I deeply hope that CBC management will re-consider this change and return to high quality and serious programming. If I want light fun, there are many other sources. But CBC Radio 2 has been the only source for high level radio.
I agree totally with this petition. CBC Radio 2 should be restored to the way it was. This is a very bad move on the part of CBC, and CBC will lose me as a radio listener.
CBC Radio has lost its way. Instead of floundering around, it needs only to return to the original vision, described in Knowlton Nash's history of the network.
The recent and upcoming changes at the CBC are a crucial blow to all Canadian artists and their work. As an educator, choral conductor and performer for over 40 years in this country, I treasured the CBC as one of the places one could access as a resource for standards of excellence in the music field. It opened minds, inspired young performers and promoted the fine work produced in Canada by Canadian artists. A national link for all - whether in cities or rural areas - these recent decisions are heart-breaking and certainly will not attract the number of new listeners you are hoping for. Indeed, I suspect you will have lost many of the most committed to your cause. A sad turn of events...
As a talented amateur musician, there is little of quality I'm interested in listening to. CBC 2 is my favourite. Canadian musicians, singers and composers have a curious silence in Canada as it is. This is another way to quiet the voice of quality in favour of more blather.
Classical Music should not be treated within the same law of offer and demand. It is a worldwide treasure that needs to be protected. As well, artists needs to be stimulated, supported and giving an opportunity to be shown outthere. Young emerging artists need help more than ever to make themselves known and gain credentials in their arts. Where is the government in all of this? Who is there to protect the Culture? Who established this sacro-saint cultural diversity? It should not be a tool to dismantled the richest forms of arts.
I listen to CBC2 for at least 3 hours a day, because I love classical music and I really like the folks that host the different programs -- Tom Alllen etc all day!!
Not only has the content (playlist) of CBC Radio 2 deteriorated significantly, the commentary by the on-air hosts now lacks the depth and intelligence it used to have.
CBC Radio 2 is an important and inspirational part of my day. The decision to make cuts to its programs without any consultation of listeners is irresponsible.
In Montreal, and I believe in other cities, there is a station that plays only classical music. This station did not make a big, splashy and costly introduction to the air waves. It became the most listened to station by word of mouth. There is a hunger for classical music in these times of blaring and pointless noise. Please continue to provide the type of programming available on CBC 2. I am certainly a fan, especially Saturday mornings.
Just what we need - another radio station that panders to the masses. If these changes go through, CBC should lose its public funding and have to compete fairly with the other stations. I resent my tax dollars being used in this manner.
CBC Radio two has always been a part of my life. Even now, in Germany, I bought a computer and got an Internet connection cheifly to listen to wonderful classical Radio.
I used to be proud of CBC Radio 2 before the retrograde changes started last year. It used to be unique in the North_American commercial wilderness providing high quality programs for discerning Canadians and even many US listeners in the range of CBC. I am really saddened to see the current trend. Pleaae restore Radio 2, or at least stop further deterioration. Think of this station as not just entertainment to one segment of the public, but a way of educating a large segment of the listeners to appreciate real art.
I am devastated at what is happening re the CBC and the profound effect it is sure to have regarding the ecology of the classical music industry and appreciation in this country.
There is so little classical programming available anywhere on the radio. CBC2 was always a leader in this department, and had great classical programs. This should not be lost.
