It would seem we have reached an all time low in CBC management. Mediocrity rules in full force in the program changes being made if this contimues I will not be tuning in to CBC, It is a national disgrace. that we have people in positions who are not qualified or intelligent enough to be making decisions of this nature regarding the programming we are to listen to. CBC has indeed reached an all time low , endevaoring to bring programming to the lowest common denominator
The current trend is shameful and ill-considered. Time to stop, listen to the cries of protest and reinstate the orchestra and programming of good music of all genres.
We travel a great deal in our business and it is CBC Radio Two that informs us and gines us joy and comfort through hours of rain, snow and some sunshine in Atlantic Canada. It is a struggle to keep intelligently informed about arts, music and the world when you live far from the center of the country. We are unable to enjoy first hand concerts, plays and lectures first hand. Would you now cut off our only access to these delights in our life? We have lost much of our transportation systems and other services in the rural parts of Canada,is it too much to ask that we should be allowed a little culture? Hoe people in other parts of the world must view our shortisghtedness in removing our rail lines and cutting funding to culture other than the love of hockey
that appears to be the only culture that interests our Prime Minister. This begins to look like just one more instance of cutting areas that have no personal interest to to him, like literature, decent day care for those who do not live in perfect two parent family with the healthy incomes that his narrow experience. This is another example of narrow minded thinling, and an apparent desire to bring everyone down to the lowest common denomiator.
Please do not remove CBC Radio Two.
We have been listening to CBC Radio 2 (formerly CBC Stereo) for over forty years, and we are dismayed at the recent program changes. What a shame, that should not be supported by our tax dollars.
It is incomprehensible how CBC's senior management has been allowed by the Department of Canadian Heritage to foster and nourish the current lowest common denominator programs that have effectively taken over the CBC. Mediocre and banal and sometnmes even offensive programming is now pushed on to the public airwaves. This cultural rot has spread like a disease through CBC television and now it wholly infects radio. I gave up on CBC television long ago on account of its boring sameness to other tv outlets. CBC 2 was still an untouched oasis of intelligent and stimulating programs. But now even here we find airhead hosts with nothing much to say between snippets of pop music. Bring back the CBC classical music programming.
I'm still angry that Music For Awhile got axed. Now CBC wants to get rid of classical music in the morning and evening when people who work can listen to it and replace it with pop! Young people were never CBC's core audience so these changes will only alienate loyal listeners, not attract new ones.
live adistance from centres ofering performances in the classical genre - as does the rest of the young family - must our youngsters grow up without a fully rounded musical experience? -until recently CBC2 was doing an excellent job.
CBC is unfortinately -- and foolishly -- alienating its core audience in hopes of attracting the same listeners that are served by other stations. It makes no sense. Classical, jazz, and world music listeners need air time on CBC. Drop the pop!
I am a grade 10 student in Vancouver and have been listening to CBC radio 2 since grade 8. I am angered to hear that the classical music programs in Radio two will be taken away. I do not want CBC radio is unique and should stay that way. I have been forced to turn off the stereo system because of the change of genre of the music. Please, keep Classical Music alive on radio in Canada!!!
Enough is enough. Such changes serve to erode our cultural heritage and wipe out part of what makes Canada such a good place to live. I will not pay taxes that subsidize C BC radio 2. In fact, maybe I will start a taxpayers’ revolt. Please reverse your decision.
I have enjoyed listening to CBC 2 over the years and oppose the changes in programming. Classical music is part of our heritage and deserves strong support.
I am outraged at the dismantling of this important cultural resource. It is a shame and the engineers of this change should be ashamed for undermining such a valuable resource. The people who listen to the CBC don't want the mainstream. They don't want to be the lowest common denominator or the would listen to commercial radio.
You have done Canadians a disservice in disbanding the CBC orchestra and in turning CBC2 into just another commercial junk station. Where can I turn for good music now?
The idea of cutting CBC Radio 2 is appalling, and totally retrograde! I am discgusted, as a lifetime listener, that you would even consider such a thing!
I am 73 years old and I have been listening to the CBC all my life. It has entertained and educated me.Please do not deprive future generations of this unique and magnificent resource.
I am appalled that CBC is ignoring its mandate for cultural diversity, ignoring its mandate to support the arts, classical musci, Canadian artists and Canadian performers, as well as its diverse Canadian audience, at the same time that CBC is squandering its meagre purse on yet another cable TV channel. FOR SHAME!
I strongly support the re-establishment of the programming as it was two years ago..The Arts Report, Music For Awhile, Sound Advice etc..please bring them back!
I am very disappointed by the changes made to CBC Radio 2, and echo the sentiments of this petition. Without this programming, it would be much less accessible if not impossible to find other means to experience classical music. As a hobby musician who doesn't move in formal circles, can't find time to go to music stores, because most of my day is spent balancing work (non-musical) and family in smaller-city Ontario, most of my exposure to this beautiful genre is through radio2 in the comfort of home. There simply are no comparable alternatives at present.
Since Directors and Management of CBC are unresponsive to the many appeals made to them in the past year to reconsider the drastic changes being made to the classical programming that we cherish, I recommend that all government funding (our $$$$) be withdrawn! That would fix them.
I am disappointed and alarmed that a country that is so young and so in need of developing and maintaining its culture would abandon the most essential public forum for nurturing that culture. Please restore CBC programming and know that many Canadians look to it for nourishment and to restore our faith in that which is uniquely Canadian.
Words fail me. These changes to radio 2 are made without any thought for, or consultation of, the Listeners. It seems to be a race to the bottom, ignoring the CBC 's mandate to
I find it incredibly disappointing and short sighted of the CBC brass to have made this decision. There are many classical music lovers amongst us (young and old) and the music that is being proposed to be played now on Radio 2 is easily available on Radio 1 and 3 as well as on commercial stations across the country. Our family have been faithful CBC listeners for many years and even our children (late teens and early 20's) are not impressed with this decision. We have been taking them to the symphony since they were very young and they are all classical music fans. Please reconsider this decision. Thank you.
You are indirectly killing off Classical Music in Canada by preventing new audiences from growing through exposure to it without people having to buy it privately: no new interest in orchestral performances will be fostered and new classical recordings will not receive the exposure that would lead to them being purchased. Shame on you!
we need diverse , informed classical music programs which is NOT available from any other radio stations. Leave other popular music to commercial stations.
