I wonder who is the dummy who decided that the audience of CBC radio 2 would be happy with the proposed changes that take away so much of real music and art!
I used to have Radio2 on my pre-programmed channels. It has lost that status.....it only gets the occasional listen now. Living in the GTA I have other classical options, but many parts of Canada do not, please return to the format we all love!
Please take this petition under serious consideration. There is so little serious art programming available, yet study after study indicate that classical music has many beneficial affects on human development. Please do not deny this free access to quality programming to diminish in any way.
Once classical music disappeared from CBC Radio 1 in the evenings I stopped listening to CBC at those hours. When CBC Radio 2 cuts back on classical music on weekends and evenings, ther will be no way to hear this music in the Maritimes. Except for news, I will stop listening to CBC Radio.
CBC Radio 2 used to be the only intelligent,, informative radio station. Please bring back ALL the classical music. Otherwise, you've just lost another valued listener.
I am sickened that one of the examples of Canadian culture which has enriched my soul on a daily basis has fallen. I cannot express how saddened I am by the cancellations of the programs. I beg you to reinstate these programs immediately.
CBC - wake up. While you're destroying the jobs of many brilliant broadcasters in an effort to save your own, you are creating a cultural wasteland. The CBC used to be something to be proud of, now I'm ashamed. Excellence has become the lowest form of mediocrity. And the people you're hoping to attract have no reason to desert the garbage stations they are already listening to, they're a dime a dozen. But the class act we used to have isn't found anywhere else. And now, not here either. Shame!
After years of listening to what was once CBC FM and is now CBC radio2, I am devastated by the recent programming changes. I find much of the current programming to be intollerable. It appears that CBC radio is dedicated to ridding the airwaves of classical music and thought provoking programmes. I want my tax dollars to go toward restoring and improving the former radio2 programming.
Please re-consider this proposal. At the very least, please launch a consultation process with your once loyal audience. You will hear that many people - young, as well as old - value your current programming which supports a wide spectrum of classical Canadian music and musicians.
The ongoing massacre of CBC Classical music is a national scandal and a symptom of the destructive anti-culture government that we are suffering under. Shame on CBC executives for their part in this massive mistake.
The CBC has consistently destroyed support for itself by betraying its most loyal listeners and viewers. Give us back the quality for which we pay. Fire the bureaucrats.
At least we have CKUA in Alberta to provide us with a broad range of music and art information. CBC 2 has turned into a wasteland not often worth having on.
I support this petition-we need more Canadian arts progamming, not less! the only music stations that seem to be worth listening to now are 91.1 for jazz and 88.1 for contemporary music, but the French language station has the best classical music. CBC radio is becoming plain and boring!
How would you know that Mozart is more marvellous than Salieri, or the Sex Pistols, unless you've heard both? Knowledge and culture don't flourish in an artistic vacuum. I'd like to see extension and promotion of quality music and the CBCRO on Radio One AND Two. Maybe Mr. Harper and some of our influential CBC personalities could explore outside their orbits once in a while.
This music is great, I listen to it frequently, and I know many of my highschool friends do too. Though often they don't realize they like it until you show it to them.
CBC is beginning to be a Radio Station that I do not like to listen to. We do not need yet another radio station which is like all other stations. Give us back our classical music station!
There is a spedial place in the minds and hearts of Canadians for the CBC and what it has achieved through the years. To change its direction and programming would be a betrayal of everything we have come to expect of the CBC
Much of the young audience the decision-makers at CBC are attempting to entice simply aren't listening to any radio station. They're listening to their Ipods and mp3 players and CD's. Those decision-makers would be greatly admired if they simply admit their programming mistake - and return to the unique content most Canadians gladly support with our tax dollars.
If the CBC insists on abandoning the kind of programs that makes it different from commercial radio it no longer fulfils a National need and therefore no longer needs funds from the public purse. The justification for public funds can only be achieved by making available unique material / programs which present the achievements and artistic endeavours of leading both Canadian and World figures in the field of Arts and Letters.
The CBC is a valuable cohesive ingredient in keeping Canada together. It is all we listen to in order to know more about other areas in Canada. It is our only classical music station. PLEASE don't end it.
