For 29 years we have had Radio 2 (and before it CBC Stereo) on all day in our house. Since the first changes we have had to switch it off at 6:00 pm. After the new cuts we shall probably not be listening to it at all.
CBC Radio 2 has provided a unique and essential service in its classical music offerings and arts coverage. Please restore and continue to provide these treasures to the radio-listening public. If CBC Radio 2 abandons its classical music programming, its faithful listeners will have to abandon CBC Radio 2 for other sources of classical music.
It sickens me to find out that the only venue for classical radio in Canada (especially out east) is about to axe several of my favourite programs including Disc Drive and Music and Company. The management of the CBC are trying to drive all their listeners away by eliminating classical music.
Some trimming I can see. The wholesale cancellation smacks of cultural suicide. CBC classical music programming is one of the few things that truly distinguishes this country from its commercial neighbour.
CBC Radio2 is one of the best classical radio stations in the world and really promotes classical music in Canada. It would be a big shame to make all these suggested cuts.
CBC Radio 2 is our family's mainstay for cultural and heritage music. Commercial radio is congested with head-banger, angry, noisy, or mere pop and top-40 or retro musical menus. The classical focus of Radio 2 must remain strong and available in evenings and
CBC has remained a constant in Canadian intellectual and culture fabric. The proposed programming cuts will ensure that I never turn on the radio again.
What is happening with the CBC is a disgrace. It almost seems like there is an agenda to make this public corporation more attractive to potential private buyers.
I am appalled at the changes being made to CBC Radio 2. I want to hear Music and Company! I want to hear Northern Lights again. I want to hear th e Singer and the Song. quality programming all, lost to 'popular' dribble I cannot bear
CBC must remain the unique station as it has been for decades. The current programming changes to Radio 2 should be revisited and reversed by reinstating cancelled programs.
As a formr on-air person for CBC Vancouver, management has GOT to stop eroding programming that is unique and wonderful....paws off our Classical Music Programmes....Radio Programming is deteriorating at an alarming rate...what audience are they targetting//
Radio 2 has been the only station on my radio for the last 36 years since our arrival in Canada. When I don't listen to that I listen to Public Radio stations in the US with similar classical music
These are amazingly short-sighted and immature changes, considering, among many other things, the comparative quality of the music removed and that with which it was replaced. CBC's well-earned reputation will be ruined by this format.
I find it atrocious that now, after enjoying classical music on Radio 2 for years, that I have to tune into FRENCH channels on the hope of hearing some now. And I AM in the age demographic that they want! This only makes me want to stop listening to CBC at all!
We citizens of Yarmouth Nova Scotia only get CBC2 intermitently and we have been told that we are next on the list I do believe it would a bad choice to change programming at this time.
Unlike all the other radio stations, CBC Radio Two did not until recently include much popular or other music, but provided a superb service to which I have been loyal for many years. I am bereft at the prospect of having this all cut off. I believe the CBC is doing a serious disservice to all of its many loyal followers. There is no other Canadian radio station that provides such a high standard of classical music. You are leaving us in the lurch.
CBC is the only radio service that provides thoughtful commentary to accompany classical music. Without Eric Friesen and others, we will have very little access to the large number of excellent Canadian classical musicians and composers. This is the first step towards closing CBC's Radio 2 altogether.
For most of us, there is very little option to hear classical music. I think the size of the CBC2 audience has been miscalculated. For example, my two children, who would never admit to enjoying CBC2, always tuned in when alone.
Classical music programming should be considered an essential public service. The healing, growth, and inspiration we get from listening is an important component to our mental health and development.
For I and many others, CBC Radio 2 was the only outlet for classical music, and it was a wonderful station. To bury the classical programming in a time slot where people who are working or students (such as myself) probably won't get to hear it is a big mistake.
While the TV entertainment world served us cheaply made slop in the form of reality shows, we could always turn to CBC Radio for something better - why abandon the masses when we need more cultural programming, not less?
No more cuts PLEASE!! We need more classical music not less! Programs like Disc Drive, Here's to You, In Performance and Howard Dyck at the Opera are why we listen to CBC. There are no alternative classical stations in central B. C. but there are lots of
I live in southwest NB and do not have classical music stations available 24 hours a day as folks do in large centres. I already am upset that there is country and pop music on in the afternoons during the week and terrible noises in the middle of the night! Also, Tonic irritates me enough that i even try the French CBC station (which I don't understand, but music I do ) and resort to PBS in Maine at times. Please do not cancel any more classical programmes . I would also vote to put Tonic on some other station.
The CBC had something special in CBC Radio Two, much like they have in CBC Radio 3 now. Where else could you hear this kind of music, for free, and without commercials? Bring CBC Radio Two BACK!
International shipper of animals Tom Schooler observers: When classical music is played in our shipments, the animals are calm, maintain good appetites, and arrive healthy. If we play pop and rock,
