I live in Upstate New York. It was CANADIAN classical music broadcasting that I turned to in order to hear great music in the evening from as far back as I can remember. (It was more difficult to pickup the CBC during the daytime, but I always made the effort.) I have seen what has happened to classical music broadcasting in the USA (still under scrutiny) and can only say DON\'T let this happen in Canada. You have something you can be very proud of and as a person who loves your country and people, I fully support this petition.
CBC classical music is the last bastion against the cacaphony and omnipresence of rock and pop music in our society and culture. Please do not give away the wonderful heritage of classical music in this shortsighted fashion.
How dare you, have you no respect for the people who want and need a better quality of music or do you really think that all the people want is the garbage that is destroying our youth.
CBCradio 2 is a very important part of our culture. Without it we will not be listening to CBC at all.
We trust your good judgement to keep CBC 2 as it is. thank you
As long as I can remember, CBC Radio has been a part of my life. It is unique and special. Don't let it become another ad-filled, annoying station that plays music everyone else plays!
As a Canadian who grew up listening to CBC classical music, I would be very disappointed if CBC stopped its classical music programming. Don't we have enough pop music stations already?
The changes proposed for CBC 2 are atrocious. One of the truly great things about this country has been this bulwark against the insatiable American dumbing-down to the lowest common denominator. Please keep CBC 2 current level of intellectual honesty.Peter Reeve-Newson
As a long time listener of CBC 2, I am deeply appalled by CBC's decision to give in to become a commercial radio station. As a Canadian taxpayer, I was very proud that I could count on the one and only radio station that would broadcast classical music 24/7. That, however, has changed last year, and is about to change again, in the name of trying to reach a wider audience. Listen well, CBC big wigs, the majority of Canadians already have an abundance of choice to hear their favorite music. It's us folks who love classical music who are more and more challenged to find music for our ears. With this act, I for one, will start fighting for the end of CBC radio, if CBC is to be funded publicly. We don't fund commercial radio, so why should we fund a commercial CBC? Or better yet, why doesn't the Minister of Canadian Heritage ask for the firing of CBC's top brass in Parliament. because after all, CBC belongs to Canadians, not to it's employees.Death to the CBC!
I have already signed a petition for preserving the CBC Radio 2 programming, but in case this is a dfferent petition, I'll sign it too. I cannot say often enough and firmily enough how much I am hoping and praying that CBC RAdio 2 will not go down the drain the way it seems to be headed.
My children have grown up listening to classical music on Radio 2 in the morning and late afternoon. Both I and they will be very upset to see classical music removed from these time slots.
Please RESTORE classical programming to Radio2.If someone works 9:00-5:00 where one is not able to listen to radio during the day then one has lost all the chance to listen to classical radio. Canada Live is certainly not sufficient for classical music fans.Yes, I can listen to
CBC is an essential part of the Canadian lifestyle. No matter where you travel in Canada, one can listen to that great station and hear the music we all love. It would be an absolute shame on Canada to lose such an asset.
Classical music is a gift for all ages and in time those who are now too young will appreciate and want to hear it. Since you do not need commercial revenus, you can provide the best rather than what sells.
Radio 2 MUST remain primarily a classical music station in order to promote young musicians in Canada and deliver intelligent radio of a high quality to all Canadians. Stop dumbing down the airwaves and turning Radio 2 into a trashy commercial station. Take off the
CBC as I have listened to it and watched the TV as well, has me convinced we need an indepentdent national place for information .. bring back This Hour has Seven Days!
CBC Radio 2 is the only radio station where you can find serious music played with informed commentaries by musicologists and music lovers. I can find other music types on other stations if I want. Please do not change radio 2 to eliminate all this.
Please, please do not destroy Radio 2 and its classical music. There is nowhere else to hear such programming. Imposible to own all that wonderful music on CD. Radio 2 is my lifeline!
I am shocked and disgusted to hear of the cancellation ofAll of the daytime classical music shows. The loss of Eric Friesen and Jurgen Gothe particularly annoy me. I'll be switching to Classical KING, Seattle and my personal collection of over 2,000 albums. The current management at CBC are Philistines.
Please rethink the slash and burn tactics that are occurring. Those of us who have spent our lives learning about classical music and listening to fascinating conversations with artists deserve to continue our education. I cannot believe that you have let Eric Friesen go. He should be named a national treasure!! The interviews with Pinkas Zukerman about violin concerti have been brilliant. Do not go the route you plan. I am about to retire and look forward to hearing the concerts etc. that I have not been able to hear because I have been at school. Please do not destroy the CBC. I mourn the loss of concerts I have been to and which you no longer record such as those given by the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and Virtuosi! Phyllis Webster
Please reverse the decison to reduce classical music programming on CBC R2. Thousands of listerners are turning of their radios and there are many other stations providing better 'easy listening' music to which 'new listeners' will turn their dial.
Just who does the CBC think is going to replace the current classical music audience? Doe they really think there an audience out there for elevator music? As for other genres, there are plenty of stations for people to listen to, but there is no other Canadian home for classical music. This is a real step backwards into the dark ages of mediocrity. The recent Beethoven Festival on CBC radio 2 was absolutely amazing. There is no music today that can even compare with Beethoven. How can we lose that incredible heritage to easy listening garbage?
Classical music on CBC radio 2 has enriched the lives of thousands, giving access to classical music to many who would not otherwise have access to it. This is the antithesis of elitism, and crucial to the soul of a nation.
CBC 2 was the only format through which we in my community could access classical music. It's against everything good at the CBC to allow other types of readily available musical genre to take over. What a disappointment.
