Why alienate the bulk of your listeners to recruit people who prefer other stations or other modes (on-line, MP3, iPod)??? I tried listening to Peter Togne\'s program on April 26, but much of it was NOISE. Lowest common denominator satisfies no one. I am grieving the loss of the CBC Radio orchestra and the loss of early morning and prime time classical music.
Up until now, the depth of classical music programming on CBC Radio2 and vast knowledge of its hosts have been one of the best ways to learn about classical music. Please keep giving Canadians intelligent programming - we\'re not dumb so don\'t dumb down CBC Radio2!
I agree that cbc needs to get new listeners, but note that many of us oldies have a 30 year life expectancy, and money, so that we will be long term listeners and maybe, even financial supporters. Better not to alienate us.
I cannot believe that one can be so short-sighted as to cancel all the classical music on the only radio station that plays it and has so well supported our canadian musicians. Without this venue it will create a hardship for them and certainly for us in not being aware of what\'s out there.
I am also disturbed that we Radio 2 listeners no longer receive the full-length news reports that are available on Radio 1. Are we deemed to be less concerned with what\'s going on in this world than those who listen to Radio 1?? I used to look forward to listening to Radio 2 all day long. Now, the evenings especially, are a disappointment to me. Please return to the high-quality programming we enjoyed before this drastic and unwelcome change!!
More Toronto/Montreal/Vancouve r thinking seems to be driving these changes. There are a lot of taxpayers elsewhere in the country ! The drive to less music of real substance is likely to become a sel-fulfilling prophecy. If I want muzack-style music I can find it lots of other places.
PLEASE SAVE RADIO TWO as it is now or even better as it was last year before Music fro a While with Danielle Charbonneau and other great programs were cut.
Haven\'t we Canadians sold enough of our birthright already? Keep this cultural icon alive and doing what it should do: play serious music and educate us about it.
I don\'t want easy-listening pap. I want classical music and jazz. CBC radio should be unique and distinct from commercial radio. You represent the best of Canadian culture not the most common.
CBC should not be required to chase ratings like a commercial station reliant on selling advertising but should instead be required to provide real excellence in programming. CBC has in house producers because it is supposed to create content and curate new material in addition to documenting events that others are producing. A resource like the CBC Radio Orchestra is an essential asset for this purpose. This is an institution that is vital to Canada\'s future. It requires increased funding in order to be able to meet the high standards that we expect and deserve.
When CBC cut the Northern light late night classic music programm, I was completely lost. Now they want to cut more off the classic music programs. What a crazy idea. We should increase to play more classic music instead to cut more. There are more the other kind music on all other radio stations. If we can count on CBC to play classic music, Why we have a public radio.Magdalene McDowall
Please keep the classical music! I enjoy hearing it when I go on trips! I love classical music! There are many other radio stations with rock, pop, and country and so on music! WE need all day classical music!!!I eve have my alarm clock set on radio 2 so I can wake up to classical music!Love Isabelle Lei age:8
Please retore CBC to the full classical music programme, already I missed the classical music on Radio 1, now the sliding back of Radio 2 really breaks my heart.
Who is trying to sagotage the CBC?? Why do we always dumb down our institutions to comply with the lowest common denominator. Are we trying to copy the USA? We are different. Trying to appeal to the so called young just isn\'t a good enough explanation. We believe in diversity and want to keep it that way.
It is sad to see our national tax-payer funded radio station being decimated and converted to a soul-less, mindless, irritating joke. As they say- it is not the quantity -but the quality, though in this case it is not of the kind of music but of the PEOPLE who are the heart and success of the station. Look at what happens when you try to fill in for Tom Allen in the morning- these people have nice voices but are clearly not capable professionals and can\'t make the program work. It is not the sound but the substance- it is not the music- it is the talented and professional PEOPLE that makes the music interesting and the station \
Dismantling the CBC is akin to the goverenment shutting down the country\'s libraries and replacing them with mangize stands. SHame on them. THe real damage will be in the future, when Canada\'s children will grow up with no classical music exposure.
With the loss of classical music programming on CBC Radio 2, the damage to Canadian culture will be irreparable. The CBC is becoming irrelevant. How very sad!
I fear the new barbarians at the CBC are about to prevail. There are listening alternatives out there but it will be a sad day when we can no longer find quality music programming from our national broadcaster
The cancellation of the CBC Radio Orchestra, as well as much of the classical programming on CBC Radio 2 runs counter to what the CBC means to many Canadians - a substantial and wonderful unifying force for the country. Let\'s not allow these wonderful institutions to become things of the past.
I wouldn\'t have as much appreciation for Classical Music as I do now without this type of programming on CBC. My father had had CBC 2 playing at home ever since I was a small child.
Don\'t make the CBC a poor cousin of commercial radio run by people with no musical culture. Or is the aim to start selling commercial time as exampled by the inane voice from some commercial production company that interrupts Radio 2 programming at totally inoportune times?
I feel this move to cancel classical music AND the CBC Symphony Orchestra is a total tragedy for Canadian unity. We are in grave danger of becoming just another State in the USA.
Stop dumbing-down the CBC, and Canadians! Don\'t leave the best the country has to offer defenceless: support the dissemination of great art and ideas through the CBC, one of Canada\'s fine institutions. For the same of coming generations: please.
I am in mourning this year for Ms. Charbonneau and for the thought of losing morning classical programs with thoughtful insights by presenters and a connection with the rest of Canada on what\'s happening with such music in their communities. I spend much time working on the computer and want an escape from it- not more time on a souless piece of technology whose sound on concerts on demand is inferior to my radio.Had I known you would do this I would have bought more classical CD\'s in the past while there still were places to purchase them. Why have you done this to us? There are enough losses in our world at present without having to endure this one that isn\'t necessary. At the end of the day, the thought of Tonic is just too much. a little of tonic goes a long way. More substance is needed. Sad, sad sad.
Please bring back classical music in the evenings and especially Two New Hours. If you really think classical music has become more relevant, perhaps you could sponsor and record more of the many live performances across this country and play more challenging and less well known works in more educational formats. I\'d also like to see more interviews with performers, conductors and composers such as those broadcast in Live at the Met.Thank you.
