For years I have looked forward to hearing Danielle Charbonnneau, then Two New Hours. I no longer listen to Radio 2 in the evening. Shame on the CBC for eliminating good programming.
I now listen mostly to NPR. CBC programming in recent years has lost what used to be a world-class reputation. Fund the damn thing and bring it back to giving us cultural leadership!!
In fact, most of the recent changes to CBC programming are completely deplorable. I don't like to listen to this station anymore, as all my favourite programmes are gone.
Two new hours has contributed greatly to the success of Canadian composers. To cancel it would mean a total lack of recognition of the importance of their contributions to Canadian performance and music arts.
Bring back classical music and quality content to CBC Radio 2 and to Radio-Canada! Otherwise, it's just another fake and boring commercial radio network that will be on air.
While I don't think anyone at the CBC either hears or cares, despite the fact that I'm smack in the middle of their target demo, I'll add my voice to this list. I haven't had Radio 2 on in weeks.
If the intention of the programme changes was to reach a younger demographic, then why was Radio 3 removed from Saturday evening broadcast on Radio 2? It was an essential source of independent music in Canada. The new programming on Radio 2 not only does a disservice to this so-called 'younger demographic' and calls into question the intelligence and discernment of the target market, but has alienated the loyal listeners of many different ages. Alas, I am listening less and less and feel lost.
It essential that CBC management do everything in its power to maintain the integrity of its programming, even in the face of political and budgetary pressures. For the CBC is a rare bird with a voice that has often been able to transcend the whims of common commercial ism. To slash and burn at programming will ultimately lead to oblivion of one of the few remaining voices of reason in media today.
Given that a goal of the new programming was to change the classical bias of the music on Radio 2, I find it inconceivable that the show Two New Hours has been dropped. This show together with CBC's broadcasts from the Winnipeg New Music Festival introduced me to New Music and I love it. I am completely shocked that you got rid of Two New Hours and cannot understand it at all.Alexandra Eadie
I am appalled by the deterioration of CBC broadcasting standards. CBC has been the single unifying force in this country. The previous high standards of CBC-- in every category has been of grreat assistance to help Canadians know and value their country. It has also been of imeasurable help to new-Canadians: learning the ways, values and interests of this country. The cancellation of fine programs and absence of expert hosts leaves a dumbed-down service which pleases no-one. Another noticeable change is the deteriorating quality of education, speech, delivery and pronunciation of new hosts, readers and newscasters. They are poorly selected and ill-trained. I do not know who or what is responsible for these regretable decisions--if it is purely financial matter then more money can be applied with the correct approach to government.A third rate National Broadcasting Co.can make Canada a laughingstock.Listeners to the wonderful World Service will know how CBC has deteriorated in comparison. On a personal note, I would give a great deal to have the program 'Northern Lights' --11pm-1am-restored.Marve llous music, perfectly hosted. Please work to bring CBC up to it's formerhigh standard and reputation.
Please, please, give us something to listen to on CBC--you are forcing us to tune into US stations, and internet broadcasts. The CBC is not longer worth listening to.
