The new Tonic show featuring Frank Sinatra versus Danielle Charbonnois\' Music for a While??????? Gregory Charles mimicking whoever, on Sunday mornings yet???? When does the person who has made these horrendous errors quit, retire, resign, or get fired? (The disregard for a heritage of excellence is frightening.) Why is CBC Radio 2 featuring so much drivel, especially when it is already available on so many other stations, all at the expense of a heritage of exquisite intelligent refined music that has no equal? Why so blatently dismiss all of our incredible classical musicians???
This is nothing but a sheer outrage. This decision has to be reverted and Radio 2 Classical Music needs to be preserved! The CBC Orchestra and Radio 2 are the life blood to future artists and future young musicians getting their start and obtaining international status! Don\'t do this to our performing artists and recording artists!! This is our time to finally speak up for our own Canadian culture.
I and my friends have enjoyed classical music every morning on the way to work for many years. Tom Allen brings the joy of beautiful music to my heart while teaching me so much about music, composers and instuments which I can\'t wait to share with my friends when I arrive at work. I think it a CRIME to remove such quality shows from the air. It is not easy to find classical music on the radio. You argue that you are not representing all of Canada but the fact is that you are the ONLY ones representing the classical music lovers. All other types of music are readily obtained at will on other stations -not so classical.I have heard that it was a battle to get classical music to the point it has reached. How can you consider throwing away the efforts of so many to make this possible? Classical music has been part of my heritage and my upbringing. My mother ALWAYS listened to the opera without fail on Saturdays and we all learned to love it too.You argue that it\'s only older people who listen to classical music. How will the young ever experience the beauty of it if they have no opportunity to hear it on the CBC? Please reconsider keeping such a wonderful and valuable, and free source of pleasure for so many
As a visually impaired person, I rely on Radiio2 for much of my entertainment and to reduce my bllod pressure and the general stress of my dis-ability. As a classical music lover, I have learned so much from the excellent Hosts and the knowledge and insight they provide.I do occasionaly listen to the Galaxie Channels, But I miss the context the Hosts provide. Please keep Radio 2 as it is! I am still reeling from the last set of changes.
With regards to the current insidious changes made to CBC2 programming, it is impossible to understand why you did not use the obvious forum to discover what CBC listeners want from Radio2? You have the whole country to voice their wishes and expectations, at NO cost, through the morning, noon and drive home programmes on Radio1, plus As It Happens and Cross Country Checkup. The only reponse to that query is that you chose NOT to know what WE want, for, if you did, you could not hav proceeded with these drastic and despicable changes.
My Radio 2 will be clicked to Off as long as long as CBC continues with its dismantling of a National Airways Treasure. If this continues the only hope is for the real CBC Two to rise out of the ashes of what is now becoming utter destruction. Good-bye current CBC \
There are plenty of contemporary radio stations of all kinds but only one classical radio outside of the few major metropolitan centers. If the brass at the CBC think that they are gonna gain the younger demographic they are dead wrong! They are only going to loose their faithful listeners.
I want: educated music hosts, the Arts Report, 8-minute newcasts on the hour, NO JAZZ from6-8pm, Howard Dyck back on Saturday Afternoon @ the Opera, classical music all day long and night (pre-September 2007). Thank-you.
Radio 2 is a national treasure. Its one of the very fiew radio in the world which had kept as a duty to educate people in classical music. In France , France Musique has departed from this duty years ago without any increase of its audience and a considerable frustration to the listeners. The classical part is now taken over by a private radio who is playing three times a day the four seasons: never any discovery is proposed to the listener. This has been a total disaster with no benefit whatsoever to anybody. This failure should serve as a lesson of what shouln NOT be done.I wish Canadians dont make the same stupid evolution , driven by fake marketing issues...which are poorly supported by facts. Radio2 must remain mainly the host for good classical music, the way by which listeners can learn about both ancient and contemporary classical music, and discover new pieces. The move toward a so called \
We need more than a few hours of classical music in the middle of the day. All the other types of music should have their own station (CBC Radio 3 or 4 or 5 etc...) Leave Radio 2 alone!!
Hey there, just to let you know that I listen to CBC radio 2 more than I watch TV. I find CBC radio 2 inspiring compared to TV which seems to me to be just an annoying distraction.
The CBC has been a part of my life since I was a child in my grandma\'s kitchen listening to operas on Saturday afternoons. As a young adult, I continue to listen to CBC radio 2 every morning precisely because of the classical programing. Classical music is part of my life everyday and takes up most of my spare time as a chorister in the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. I am not a paid musician I am an amateur with a deep love of this type of music. I believe that my love of classical music is because of that exposure to it as a child. If classical music, which has already been removed from many schools, is taken off the CBC airways, not fostered via young artist competitions, not recorded by our own artists and not talked about on wonderful programs such as Sound Advice Canadian listeners will be the ones who suffer the most and the CBC will successfully become as uninteresting and bland as every other radio station on the airways. Shame on the CBC for sacrificing a Canadian institution in favor of already overplayed pop music. Keep Radio two the way it is! Go mess with Radio Three!
I have woken up to Tom Allan for many years now and have stayed tuned into cbc throughout the day. I now change stations at 6pm regularly and with the further cuts in the classical content, I shall go elsewhere for my musical entertainment, information and education. I feel betrayed by the powers-that-be and along with the many thousands across Canada, I feel ignored and inconsequential. I hope this wonderful CANADIAN radio station will reconsider and and give CANADIANS what they most want to hear. Thank you.
On behalf of the thousands of young people in this country who listen to and truly value the CBC Radio 2 which they listen to ..(Tom Allen in the a.m. and Jurgen in the late afternoon and special 8.00p.m. broadcasts-stop the madness!!!!!!!!!! They LOVE classical music because they perform classical music!!
It is well known that the fall of Rome was caused by the loss of its culture. CBC has been one of our strongest cultural providers. It is now sliding down to the Lowest Common Denominator.
I strongly recommend to the CBC mandarins that they consider who pays for this station, Radio 2, and any of the other CBC stations, be they radio or television. We, the long-suffering Canadian taxypayers should be asked our opinions about programming, and not just stuck with corporate decisions. I am really upset with the current proramming on Radio 2, and very upset that most of the hosts are leaving the station. If you think that you are going to garner a young, more vibrant audience, you are quite wrong....these people will be running around with IPods stuck in their ears, listening to stations they have targetted already. There are many Canadians, both young, middle-aged, and seniors who appreciate the excellent mix that Radio 2 afforded for many years. I must also say here that I am disgusted with the two press releases on the CBC web site justifying the changes. Just who do they think they appeal to? It\'s time we taxpayers started getting really vocal about where our dollars go when they hit the CBC. Is this the People\'s Radio Station or not?
I listen to Radio 2 from early in the a.m. (Tom Allen) through Eric Freisen while I work in my studio and I prefer classical music to other genres. It is an inspiration to me. Please do not dilute the quality of your programming any further than you already have.
What madness. Tragically CBC Radio is now going through an identity crisis much like the sad state of affairs on the TV side. Let\'s hope saner heads prevail.
WE HAVE LISTENED TO CBC RADIO 2 FOR OVER 35 YEARS. NOW IT IS COMING THROUGH ON MY COMPUTER FROM CBC\'S LIVE STREAMING MORNING TO NIGHT. (WE LOST OUR RADIO SOURCE VIA CABLE WHEN ROGERS IN THEIR WISDOM TO DROP RADIO FROM THEIR FM DIGITAL RADIO PROGRAM OFFERING HERE IN BARRIE).CBC RADIO 2 IS UNIQUE IN ITS PROGRAMMING AND TOP QUALITY HOSTS. WE URGE YOU TO STOP FIDDLING WITH SUCCESS AND QUALITY! WE LOYAL LISENTERS KNOW WHAT WE WANT, AND WE WANT CLASSICAL MUSIC TO LIVE ON ON CBC 2 AS IT DOES NOW.
After years of cutbacks Radio 2 still remains the only reliable source of classical music with intelligent commentary in Canada. Concerts on computers cannot replace quality radio programming.
With classical music being pruned by myopic ;\'bottom line\' education boards CBC Radio 2 was a national example of our classical music heritage. The CBC\'s desire to become merely a \'me too\' purveyor of so called popular music is a major retreat from the high standards we were lead to believe were part of the CBC\'s mandate.
What a shame to loose such wonderful classical and jazz music programming...I\'ve always enjoyed the music and found the programming educational...I appreciate it even more knowing that it\'s a Canadian radio station...there are already so many other stations that play non classical music...please save the classical programming
What do the station managers have against GOOD music. Most of that other stuff is just noise. Your classical programs were easy to listen to, educational and provided a forum for young composers works as well as renew the music of past generations. Thought you were an intelligent culture.
please restore cbc2 to a more appropriate classical station The present programming is an insult to the listner who values clasical education and performance in canada
The undermining and destruction of a fine cultural institution built over half a century and serving a population UNSERVED by commercial radio is an instance of wanton cultural destruction. Nor is the strategy of making CBC something for everyone either consonent with its mandate or likely to succeed since most others have the full radio spectrum for their tastes.
