You are destroying the intellect of this country by dumbing down every program on the station. Surely as the national network it should be your job to raise the standards of intellect in the people. Youa re reducing it to the capacity of your own meagre minds.
CBC2\'s reason to be is that it is recognized as the source and perpetuation of Canadian classical music and classical music appreciation in this country. There are too many other channels playing milque toast music MOR and wallpaper music without a clear mandate. If necessary, provide cross-cultural music on another CBC band, but encourage the growth of Canadian Classical Music on CBC 2. The only other alternative is to support NPR stations in the United States! Leave my clasics ALONE!
First the CBC Radio Orchestra, now this. This is way too much. CBC leaders must really think what their mission is and think about the Canadian people. Federal politicians, please use your political will and wisdom to help!
I would very much like to if there was any consultaiton of the listeners before this decision was arrived at. I would also like to know who made ths decision and on whatgrounds. After all, we pay for the CB and should be consulted re any decisions made that affect tose who choose the CBC.i
Once again I have turned off cbc radio 2 and put on a cd because of a programming change. Replacing Jazz Beat with Signal has lost you a listener. The current changes, along with the dismantling of the cbc radio orchestra are most disheartening. I will gladly support a petition to reexamine the changes.
I am thoroughly disappointed with the revamping of CBC 2. They don\'t know when they have a good thing going and now they want to destroy it. A lot of long time listeners will be lost because of this RIDICULOUS decision.
We have grown up with CBC programming that we could respect. My father aWW2 vet, now 92 sits bathed in classical music from CBC 2 and believed he fought for something worthwhile. Please restore the programmming.
Classical music is important to Canadian musicians and composers who need the CBC to be their forum by which Canadian classical music can me exposed to the general public. What is a national radio station for if it doesn\'t support Canadians? I listen to CBC radio and enjoy the classical programs and talk shows and find it both informative and enjoyable. How do we get the teens to listen and be educated in classical music if the venue is taken away? Does this mean that we must rely on private radio stations like 96.3 FM. Shame on a government operated media to turn their backs on supporting Candian Music and musicians! I am tired of hearing how foreign companies have bought out another Canadian company. So does this mean we have to seek looking for american classical music stations to listen to classical music at night?I hope that there is still time to have this decision recinded.d.L. Shen
I love listening to classical programming on CBC. I especially appreciate hearing recordings of Canadian artists and live concerts that have taken place all over Canada. It keeps me in touch with what is going on musically. I am very unhappy with the planned reduction in classical programming on Radio 2.
CBC is cutting important education programs, cutting-edge music programs and arts reporting. We don\'t need another CFMX cranking out the same classical\
To support a musical programme or programmes that have been cherished by many over the years is to preserve the tradition(s) that shall continue for the times to come. To take away even a portion of what has been fruitful for humankind is to deprive ourselves the culture that is stritcly Canada\'s accomplishment to the world, internationally, nationally and locally. Let us ask ourselves this question: How do we, as a community, not just an individual organization, improve the quality of programming that we had been enjoying for many years? If every one of us can work together in preserving the culture, why do we want to compromise something for the other. All music programmes must be accessible to all ages, regardless the internal situation. CBC Radio Two is for all people of many walks of life. Is this not what we want to preserve in this wonderful country?
The gutting of real content on the CBC means it no longer has any distinctive identity. The melange of variety programming can be found on any number of private stations. Why is CBC attempting to duplicate this? Put another way, why do we need CBC2 anymore? The Corporation\'s slogan is \
I am strongly in favour of retaining the innovative programming that has traditionally been (until recently) one of the hall-marks of CBC Radio 2. It concerns not only the music itself but equally as important the learning, commentary, insights and informational materials presented by individuals who we invite into our homes and lives.
I have been a devoted Radio 2 listener for over 40 years. I find myself listening less these days, given the switch to programming that is already well-served elsewhere on my radio dial. The CBC has been the life blood of classical music and culture in Canada; do not destroy that tradition.
I would not like to live in a world without classical music. And I vehemently resent the idea of withholding this delight from me which you seem to want to do.
Even though it\'s been over a year, I still miss the canceled programs. Please bring back more classical music programming.Gregory UrbielGrosse Pointe Michigan USA
I grew up listening to the CBC and especially the classical music. That is the main reason I became interested in Canada. Please reverse the changes to CBC Radio 1 and 2 that have resulted in removal of most classical and arts programming.
If CBC Radio 2 goes ahead with the changes scheduled for the fall of 2008, where can we get any classical music on the radio? Not in Manitoba, that\'s for sure. I particularly resent changes to the morning and afternoon shows, since I obviously can\'t listen to concerts on the web in my car. I can\'t listen to the radio in my workplace, and my evenings are full with kids\' activities, homework, etc. So when can I access these concerts on demand that CBC is telling me I should depend on? CBC is dumping all its loyal listeners and - in Manitoba at least - not gaining any new ones: the ratings for CBC Radio 2 are plunging.
The CBC is the only reliable Canadian source of on-air classical music uninterrupted by commercials. It has a long history of highly professional presentation of classical music that should be continued.
