Please restore CBC Radio2 to a truly classical music
station. I love all genres
of good music. I can listen to rock, blues, jazz or world music on many
other radio stations - unfortunately not so with classical music. The new
dumbed-down"Tempo" version
is suitable for elevators
only. Shame CBC, Shame Canada.
I support this petition. The "new two" programming is lamentable. Canada Live has already mined the shallow depths of the Canadian pop/new catalogue and too often has come up with mewling singer songwriters. The new 5 hours of classical music is simply classical elevator music - obvious material that seems to be included to attract non-classical listeners rather than serve the current listeners. There is also reduced intelligence, character, humanity of presentation.

My first message on September 1st CBC blog was not posted! Please do not tell me that it is some kind of censureship going on here at this blog for us to express how angry we as listeners feel.
Again, i am repeating myself that CBC is not in any advertising pressure to compete for new listeners from all the other commercial stations. CLASSICAL MUSIC CAN NOT BE REPLACED nor THE HIGH CALIBER OF ITS CLASSICAL MUSIC PROGRAM HOSTS, Tom Allen, Eric Friesen, Jurgen Gothe.
WHY THIS CHANGE? First Danielle Charbonneau, for Tonic, i tolerate it, then In the Key of Charles, which absolutely is a nonsense meaningless trash (he's better off in Radio Canada station, sincerely speaking). NOW, I have no more word to say how low can CBC go? I gave it a chance on the first day realized that CBC is trying to be an OLDIES, POPS, JAZZ AND BLUES and ELEVATOR CLASSICAL MUSIC STATIONS all at the same time.
I mourn Classical Music on our National Radio Station. WHY CAN YOU JUST DO WHAT YOU DO BEST AND ARE KNOWN to the whole world: BROADCAST CLASSICAL MUSIC with intelligent knowledgeable hosts.
I'D SAY BRING BACK WHAT IS GOOD, this change is BAD.
to all Petitioners out there TOGETHER WE CAN, UNITED WE STAND. It's our tax dollars, they don't us what music to like.
I support this petition. My favorite announcer in the world, Tom Allen, has been turned into another nondescript smuck playing mindless middle of the road music. Even Tom sounds hesitent and embarrassed by what he is now doing.
This morning, my 14 & 15 year old daughters proclaimed they liked the music on the old Tom Allen show better. Oh how I miss Disc Drive too. I don't understand why anything had to change.
I support this petition.I tried listening to the changes--but after 2 days of waking up to music that sets my nerves on edge I gave up. My radio is no longer tuned to CBC 2 or 1 after 60 years of dedicated listening.
I support this petition.
A purge! A bloodless takeover...but not entirely bloodless at all, was it? There is nothing left of what we all knew & loved.
It's a sad day for Canadians. Our culture has been totally devalued.
And it is nothing less than discrimination against the MANY NUMBERS of us who listen to something OTHER than rock, blues & jazz all day.
Radio stations already exist for these listeners, but now we no longer have a voice OR a choice!! Discrimination is the only word.
All my life I have had the radio tuned into CBC. In the house, the car, the barn, wherever I travelled in Canada & parts of the USA. But no more... I'll enjoy my measly 5 hours of now diluted classical music (gee, thanks!) then I'll flip over to my CD player.
CBC will be losing FAR more than their "new hip" management hopes to gain. They will be losing generations of listeners, Canadians who grew up with & into CBC Radio.
We were once very proud of our National radio station but that is now lost & gone away.
Classical music has been around for hundreds of years...and for a reason. It is CLASSIC! I doubt the same will be said of this mish-mash.
MOST sincerely disappointed in Lunenburg Nova Scotia.
Marni Gent & my ENTIRE family!
I support this petition. I am devastated by the loss of what I considered to be a longtime friend, my Radio 2. From what I have heard since 5:45 am this morning, this is no longer my radio station. And I am not old (unless you consider 36 to be old). I am a musician who LOVES classical music and who LOVED to be entertained and educated by the incredible on-air personalities on CBC Radio 2. This is a shameful, awful day in Canada's history.
I support this petition.
This is a shameful & sad
day for Canada! Are we really so uncultured that we can't afford even 1 classical music station?
Radio2 "a station like
no other" - indeed -
piped in muzak!! To think
that we taxpayers are
paying for this!
Every single civilized country has at least one
decent classical music
station!
Shame Canada! Shame CBC!
Buck 65 and Katie Malick are a better evening combo, in my opinion, than 'Music for a While' and Disc Drive were. However, while it's cool to see his fine contemporary taste, Tom Allen's show needs to lean more back toward the classical. Listeners had a rare gift in his lighthearted delivery of his staggering classical knowledge and experience.
I support this petition, for what it's worth. I don't think it will make a difference.
CBC radio 2 used to be a Canadian gem. Now, especially after this morning's (Sept 2, 2008) programming changes, it's lost all redeeming value. I feel bad for all the wonderful hosts who have lost their shows, but I feel worse for the Canadian public, especially younger people, who will never experince this wonderful programming. What a sad day for Canada.
I support this petition. I'm especially annoyed with the "New" Radio 2. Easy listening pop for most of the day? No thanks. And to give Jurgen the boot after so many years? They wouldn't even let him finish his last broadcast this past Friday. Total BS. I won't be listening to Radio 2 anymore.
A significant part of the wonderful cultural fabric of our airwaves is being transformed into something far less captivating, educational, or inspirational. Ive watched similar changes in other broadcast areas over the last 30 years or so, and it has always been a change for the worse. What a shame.
I support this petition. The recent changes to CBC Radio 2 have transformed an exceptional, world class station into a mediocre, third rate farce. The people who made these decisions are culturally illiterate. What a pity, what a shame!
I support this petition. The changes to CBC Radio 2 have frequently been hailed by their authors as an effective measure to attract a younger audience. As a younger listener, I wish to underline that these changes have done nothing but alienate me from Radio 2.
I moved to Vancouver from the U.S. five years ago. Upon hearing CBC Radio 2, I was instantly 'hooked'. I found it to be quintessentially Canadian and enjoyed learning the culture of Canada through the many interesting programs and moderators.
Please do not end this beautiful tradition of broadcasting!

I support this petition Whole heartedly, Your programing change is betrayal. Relegating classical music to a time slot when few can tune in is lame. This program change must have been thought up by the guy who passed on the Hockey Night in Canada Theme Song. Fools!
I support this petition. Perhaps I no longer fit into the demographic CBC is attempting to contact. I will miss CBC Radio Two since it is likely that I will be shopping for a new station next week.
