I support this petition. The new format sounds like the music I download on to my ipod and hear in a Starbucks. Fine for what it is, but it's ubiquitous and no replacement for the previous classical programming. I want Eric Friesen back!
I support this petition. The old Radio 2 was entertaining, amusing, informative and a great way to feel part of a great country. The new Radio 2 is bland and not worth listening to. Please bring back more classical music and intelligent announcers.
Until the end August 2008, CBC Radio Two was the only means to promote Canadian musical talent and culture to Canadians. Now, that vehicle has been squandered. Canadian performers and composers have lost their champion and, for many, their only means to become known to their fellow Canadians. This represents the tragic end of an era in the cultural life of our country.
I support this petition. I am a 13 yr old girl and I listen to tom allen and clasical music in the morning. This is a calming way to start my day, much beter than pop or rock
BRING IT BACK
I support this petition. I can't turn on my radio anymore. My beloved Tom Allen doesn't even sound like himself. Perhaps Julie could trade places with him. And where is Eric Friesen-the man with the most beautiful voice in broadcasting? you've killed a great radio station. Pity.
Poor NPR programming drove me to CBC three years ago, where I found a musical home. I was entertained, I was amused, and I wholeheartedly LOVED the programming. Now I can hardly bear to listen. Please bring back the old radio 2.
I support this petition. What happened to the mix of intellectually interesting music and the beautiful selection of classical music? Bring back the Weekender and the classical music in the morning. Changes should not be imposed to a faithful cultured audience (and tax payers) of all ages cohort.
I STRONGLY support this petition. There is enough pop radio out there already. My Saturday was ruined by the new lineup. Bring back Jurgen Gothe and Eric Friesen.
I support this petition.
Radio 2 was a cultural, educational, refined and unique institution. Now, it became midiocre, run of the mill station no different to many others. What a pitty. We lost a "friend".Please, reconsider programs. Most of the popular so called "artists" that are now presented to the listeners, cannot sing. Why choose them when the world is full of good music.
I absolutely loved having CBC II the way it was; similar to knowing your mom is there for you in the next room. It is so rare and unique, why it was disposed of is beyond me? Was it greed, over- ambition? It is quite obvious some things should simply be left alone because to change it hurts so many. I sincerely hope we can bring the station back to its original format. Let the people truly decide.

I support this petition. I'm a 27 year old female (also in the target demographic for the new format) and I MUCH prefer the classic radio 2 programming. Particularly in the morning. I miss you, Tom Allen!
I support this petition.
I don't understand this move. I'm a 27 year old male; in the target demographic for their new format change, and I can't even stand to listen to the station anymore. It's no longer the beautiful mix of intellectually challenging yet graceful music I had sought after being overfed the bland music that is on the other radio stations.
My radio sits by my bedside, previously a device for enjoyment, now merely a buzzer alarm clock in the mornings. How I'll mourn the CBC of old.
I tried. I like Tom Allen and have commuted to his wonderful show for some time. But I couldn't bear it. He sounds so sad, so bored, so trapped. Tom, step away from the pistol, put down those pills, remove that noose from about your neck, and have faith. Good will triumph over the evil of faceless quasi-government ineptness and pulchritude given enough time. OH, WHAT WOULD MR. GOULD SAY?
I support this petition because CBC Radio2 was a cooly cultivated cultural milieu that is now dumbed down to Pop Americana -- oh please bring back our humble honest and knowing announcers with their Musical choices that are clearly for the Canadian ear --
I support this petition. Much of the music being played in the former DiscDrive slot is noise. I can get that on any number of private radio stations. Bring back Jergen Gothe.
I support this petition. The CBC is driving this household to becoming NPR listeners. Living near the U.S. Border, we have a choice, but what about those who don't have this option? Is the CBC beyond the reach of its erstwhile supporters
I support this petition. We, the Canadian taxpayers, the owners of CBC, didn't ask for a program change. Classical music is timeless, the calm in our otherwise hectic lives. Please give it back to us.
I support this petition. My comments stem from recent radio 2 program changes made this week. What type of homogenized market are the people at CBC trying to capture? The powers that be (the ones that should have asked what people want to listen to) have thrown out the "brand" equity: i.e. - the quality commentary and continued, personable education and enjoyment of your audience - with the bath water. Why? I have nothing against change... it is part of the fabric of modern society, BUT change for the sake of some perceived need that has not been made clear to loyal listeners does not make sense to me. Is there nowhere in the CBC mandate that would suggest that listeners be canvassed before changes are made? I would have thought that our tax dollars might buy us at least this much.
I support this petition. Part of being the parent I want to be has been to expose my young daughter to the kind of programming that we have just lost. We have always listened nonstop to CBC Radio 2 and now we don't turn the radio on. As far as we're concerned at our house, Canada doesn't live here any more.
I support this petition. It feels like Radio 2 has been my favourite station since I was born; as I teenager I was proud to introduce my friends to it, even though some thought I was crazy. Now, it's clearly the CBC who's crazy. Alienating a stable audience in favour of attracting people who already listen to other commercial stations that play the same stuff doesn't make sense. Farewell, Radio 2. I'll miss your class, your style, your calming effect and your "culturing" abilities.
I support this petition. The new programming is awful, in bad taste, and it will never compete with the commercial stations anyway. The bureaucrats who decreed this change of format are a bunch of idiots who want to destroy the CBC.
I strongly support this petition! The new programming is just horrible. I miss the excellent programs we had "Music and Company", "Disc Drive", and all the others. What do we have instead now? HORRIBLE !!!
I support this petition. I am heartbroken by the loss of the excellent programming and on-air personalities of Radio 2. Please contact me at restorecbcradio2 at live dot ca so that we can together come up with a solution.
I support this petition. If the goal of the New 2 is to reach a new audience it probably will succeed for a while. What about the rest of us who grew up listening to CBC, where we not that target audience at the time? This new approach presupposes that younger generations have little or no use for classical music . There is very little to differentiate this programming from any other on local or foreign pop/world/jazz/country stations. CBC was a station to be proud of , now it sounds like any other.
My strong suspicion is that the CBC execs are trying to erode the listenership of the CBC in order to shut it down permanently, since there can be no other explanation for making a move in march 2007 that did not pay off in increased listeners, and then go even further down the same path. Unless there are sweeping changes to get rid of the main-stream pap on the CBC, I won't be going back... can I get a refund on my tax dollars?
I support this petition. Can't imagine why CBC should pay attention to a several generations of faithful listeners. They haven't so far. Obviously the folks in charge think they know best, but as usual they are quite mistaken. Maybe we should all become more involved in this issue, write letters, sign written and online petitions and flood CBC brass with our reaction to the changes they have made which we don't like. Maybe we'll find out if CBC Radio really is the "People's Channel" or if it has morphed into something we as faithful listeners will no longer want to subscribe to.
I support this petition. Living across the border near Ann Arbor, we have many choices for music in the morning, but only one other playing classical pieces. For the past 6 years Tom Allen has kept me "company" during the long rides to work or caregiving. When my mother passed away in May this year, it was "Music and Company" that I turned to for a sense of calm and comfort. How I miss Tom cheerfully adding his insights and and masterfully bridging classical topics to modern day observations and events. Classical music on the radio is rare to find and when you do find it, you hate to see it disappear like the way of so many others. Please bring back your former daytime programming!!
I support this petition. For most of my life I have started my mornings with CBC's classical music programming, punctuated by informative and often humourous commentary (thank you, Tom Allen),truly a restorative to the soul. For 43 years, the frustrations of the daily commute have been assuaged by themes that have survived the centuries and are so healing to the emotions. Indeed, CBC's Radio 2 classical programs have been a wonderful constant in our ever-changing society. After traveling abroad, it has been so reassuring to be welcomed home by the familiar classics that have become so much a part of my life. Accessible classical music gives wings to the spirit at times when we most need to be lifted up. I feel a profound grief at the loss of this good friend. Please, plese resurrect the old Radio 2 classical programming.
The new CBC Radio 2 programming schedule is a disaster for lovers of classical music.
I used to listen to CBC 2 in bed on awaking; I used to listen to CBC 2 while shaving and showering; I used to listen to CBC 2 while eating breakfast; I used to listen to CBC 2 while driving to work. When I could, I listened to CBC 2 during quiet periods at work, and I listened to it every evening at home.
Since the programming changes I have stopped listening to CBC Radio 2 in the morning and in the evening. I am sure that millions of other Canadians have done the same.
One of the most distressing things I have noticed during the brief period that I listened to the new programs was the unhappy sound of knowledgeable and experienced CBC radio music presenters pretending that they were enjoying the unpalatable cocktail of folk, world, jazz, and pop music they were obliged to play.
You have made a BIG mistake.
Smarten up and restore the previous pattern of progamming.
I support this petition. There is a simple solution:-
1)All those resposible for the disasters of March 2007 and September 2008 should immediately submit their resignations or be fired for incompetence.
2)CBC shall immediately recall all personnel associated with programmes prior to disaster days 1 & 2 and revert to programming with those original programmes.
I support this petition. Its really sad to see CBC radio 2 go in this direction. Its like its slowing becoming a market driven, commercial radio station.
I support this petition, and share the sentiments and opinions with most of the supporters. I would ask: what can we do to be heard more? Should we write our MPs? To some ministry or other government institution? There must be somebody personally responsible (they cannot hide themselves behind "management") - and I would really like to petition for this person to be replaced. The banner on the top of this site says "145,299 petitions, 8,931,022 signatures" - does anybody care then?
