Or at least get new audio engineers for Julie Nezralla. Can they make her voice sound any brasher or harsher?--it sounds like she's speaking from a cell phone somewhere. Her voice has no qualities for radio.
I support this petition. The hodgepodge of music on CBC2 is disgusting. How are our young people ever going to be introduced to the joys of classical music?
For years I have found refuge in the excellent classical programmes offered by CBC radio. It was for me an oasis of calm and reason in this increasingly frantic world. Because of the misguided revision to your programming, I now listen to my classical CD collection, as there is no other station that provides the material I had previously enjoyed. Unfortunately this is just another nail in the coffin of good taste and culture.
I wholeheartedly support this petition.
I support this petition. Completely. After moving from London, Ontario, I was delighted, a few years back, when Radio 2 became available on the Bruce Peninsula. I was once again able to listen to some really good stuff at home or in the car.
I've listened to the new programming, with a willing ear and an open mind, but I've given up now. I'm hearing only uninspired fluff instead of real music and inconsequential smalltalk instead of real discourse.
I'm hoping for a better day.
Mark Nowicki, Tobermory, Ontario
I support this petition. I was prepared to give CBC a bit of time to see if they settled in with the new shows, but it's so sadly lacking - the music I like is missing, and the informed hosts are missing. I rarely use my radio any more.
I support this petition. We have lost a national treasure. CBC Directors don't seem to realize that thousands of young people also love classical music.

JUST THINK this program did knit the country together in many ways. The cancellation is another example of POP CULTURE over all, POP Culture overall is so Tiresome !
I support this petition.
If I hear Julie Nasrallah gleefully introduce "the most played symphony" "the most popular composer" "the most recorded concerto" one more time - I'll scream... why do we have to listen to the most familiar, most heard all the time?!! What happened to audience development? I want a listening challenge. I'm not brain dead yet. What are we - a shopping mall?
I support this petition. It is difficult to register anything but contempt for the CBC executives who have perpetrated this travesty - basically destroying a national, culturally unifying asset. Some of the pop/ rock/ twangy western music is OK as far as it goes - and a good percentage of it is Canadian, but what these dolts don't seem to understand is that this stuff is available 24 hours a day elsewhere on the dial. If this programming "philosophy" continues, there is much less reason for CBC Radio 2 to receive any public subsidy.
I support this petition. You bet your ipod I support this petition. We have to stop the decided turn towards anti-intellectualism in this country. CBC made a major step towards this further strengthening the stand that intellectualism is wrong, bad, or just rambling by a bunch of geeky nerds. Let's bring some sanity back to our national broadcaster.
I support this petition 100% because the Executives of programming the air waves for CBC Radio 2 during the largest listening audience between 6:00am and 10:00 am are pursuing a program of classical music extermination by brainwashing the captive morning audience to listen to the type dreary life-sapping depressing whining music appreciated only by CBC Executives and not by the majority radio audience.
I support this petition. I just tuned into the station that I know as my favorite for years, and surprised there is no classical music to be heard again. It is a shame the music of better quality has been sacrificed for the pop culture to please those who like the lesser.
I support this petition. I also feel that the CBC Radio 2 has completely destroyed itself by allowing a bunch of fools to devastate its formerly high-quality programming. These new people are well-meaning, perhaps, but either thoroughly incompetent, or else they have their political correctness to overwhelm their good sense. Yet another reason to doubt the good will and competency of the current government.
I support this petition. Many American cities have public radio stations who play classical music 24 hours a day. What has happened to us? Are we less than the American neighbours? There are dozens of stations in each province who play pop and miscellaneous music. The only channel which played classical music till 10pm was CBC2. I wonder whose tasteless idea was replace the classical music with some weired music that any other radio station is not ready to play.

My family and friends are extremely disappointed in your new format , and for this reason we have stopped listening to C B C radio 2
Now that the US Neocons are holed up with Pinky and the Brain wondering what to do, it would be a good time to sneak some of the enlightenment back in to the studios. Harper may catch on that there are people with glasses broadcasting and call the White House looking for a prudent, market-based response to such a glaring breach of the perimeter but daddy won't be there. He will be out at the ranch whipping Pinky. I realize this is unfair, of course; KPI's weren't even Pinky's idea.
I support this petition. We really miss Music and Company. We've tried to adjust to the new stuff, but it's hopeless. As an American, I used to be glad we lived within listening range of CBC Windsor. Now it doesn't matter. Too bad. So, here's a suggestion: admit you made a mistake, and go back to the excellent programs you used to have.
I support this petition. I have listened to nothing on the radio except CBC for over 30 years. I would switch between Radio 1 and Radio 2 as my tastes dictated. Now I have only Radio 1 to choose from. If I want "banjo pickin", or "screaming rock", I can find that elsewhere. Please return Radio 2 to its previous state. My age is 59 and I am retired.
Sometimes the discussions of classical music used to annoy me when I wasn't in the mood. But over a couple of decades, I learned so much from erudite hosts and guests, probably in spite of myself. Listening to radio 2 was always challenging and enlightening. A program on Jussi Bjorling introduced me to his radiant voice and I was sunk. Now...it's like sleepwalking through the day, and CBC Radio 2 is so much background muzak.
Total dumbing down! I support this petition.
I support this petition. CBC2 is now a classic example of the way things are being 'dumbed down' to appeal to the lowest common denominator. In Nova Scotia we are not lucky enough to have another radio station which appeals to that section of the market who appreciate MUSIC!
I support this petition. Sometimes when I turn on cbc2 now, they seem to be playing music that no one of ANY age would be interested in listening to. Are they trying to kill cbc altogether? As for appealing to younger listeners (which is having almost as bad an effect on cbc1), I would remind cbc that the baby boomers are still the largest audience available, and speaking as a boomer, I was just getting really into classical music the last few years with the help of people like Jurgen Goth. There are any number of crap stations available; if cbc joins those ranks, their days are numbered. Pity those of us who liked something on radio that could wake up the brain & stimulate thought!

“Have you listened to CBC Radio 2 lately? It has been completely destroyed and turned into a short attention span "syndrome" of short, short, short, repeat, repeat, repeat, popular music. Gone are the priceless programs like Eric Friesen's 3 hours or Catherine Belyea's morning 3 hours. Working on an art project with London Artist, Kirtley Jarvis at the 7 P.M. hour, she asked what is that NOISE! I said it’s the replacement for CBC Radio 2’s "Music for a While" hosted by Danielle Charbonneau. TURN IT OFF! ... I used to look forward to a one hour evening walk near sun down all the while listening to Music for a While on my sony walkman. Danielle Charbonneau’s taste in classical music was impeccable. Now replaced by repeat noise. On and on and on and on ...classical programming has been axed!”
Solution:
Create an 24 hour all new classical CBC Radio 7 (7 for good luck) with quality programming similar to BBC R3. Revive CBC Radio Symphony.” Helmut Becker, Artist, Komoka, Canada
“There's been a pogrom at CBC2 and the guys who done it are a pack of fascists. What they now offer is the same fare available at dozens of commercial stations that actually offer more: some specialize in country & western, some in hard rock, etc., so you can pick your poison. So who's going to favour CBC with its hodgepodge, neither fish nor fowl? They've dumbed it down and thrown out some of the cream of the world's best radio hosts. They've alienated a devoted and loyal audience. They've struck a vicious blow at culture in Canada. They've acted on the Harper guideline--you can cut anything that doesn't pander to mainstream values.
Dr Henry Becker, Canadian Research Scientist, Kingston
“I agree with the blogspots you have reprinted, Helmut, in regards to CBC. This completely abrogates their cultural responsibilities. And CBC TV is no better under their new American extreme free-market leadership. Replacing 30 years of investigative jour
I support this petition. I have tried to listen to the 'new' CBC 2 but find it is terrible. The 'music' is unlistenable, the announcers have no worthwhile introductions - it sounds as though they are ad libbing from their car - comments like 'this is awesome music'! A couple of weeks ago there was rap 'music' with the F-word - no thank you CBC! I can get this on dozens of stations - I want a station that plays music and has knowledgeable people with informative content.

I loved the old format. It was the best when you started the jazz at 10 pm.
Even though I am a listener from the U.S., I don't find myself listening very much any more, because most of the time you have jazz on. The classical was much better. Stick with it, please. Thank you,
