For a country with 4 berths to not be allowed their 5th placed team in if they win is a scandal. Imagine if this happens to your team in future, dont let it happen, sign the petition quickly.

Have to be allowed in. The rules say the holders defend it. Yes they also say only maximum of 4 teams, but why,they now know the rule is stupid and so should be adult enough to change it.

Chuck the scum they call everton fc out and let liverpool return to the days of glory,what have everton achieved? 4th place and NOTHING! It would be a disaster if the Champions of a Cup didn't have the opportunity to defend it. The press would destroy the UEFA delegates so it's good for all concerned to have the MIGHTY REDS back!

#54. Sorry but they havent, not under the current rules. They would qualify if the FA changes the four teams they want to enter (they still can by the way). There is currently nothing in the UEFA rules that allow more than 4 English teams in next years CL. Apparently UEFA's thinking originally was it was to stop what Liverpool have just done ie: sacrificing their league position by being crap and playing weakened teams in a vain hope they would win it and then somehow get the rules manipulated later.

Holders should be allowed to defend, but it's too late to change the rules for ECL 2005/6. Sorry kopites, sit and watch the rest of us play in the ECL, just like we blues had to do in 85/6 and 87/88.

look up the word precedent . only 4 teams were allowed to compete from spain ( as per uefa rules ) in the cl when real madrid won but finished 5th in the league ..real zaragoza got bin bagged by the spanish authorities as is their right...our league decided as is their right that the top 4 clubs in our league would be our representatives in next years cl....get over it ( your 2nd goal should have been disallowed for offside anyway )

run it by me again. liverpool beat alaves in the 2000/2001 uefa cup final in a game full of drama and passion ......did liverpool defend this title or did they grab as much cl money as possible the following season? your answers please on the back of a matchbox

All this debate is not necessary. LFC knew at the start of the season what the rules where fro qualification for next year. And even if they didnt both the FA & UEFA spelt it out to them weeks ago, when it was still possible for them to finish 4th btw. All this nonsense about great traditions and how we beat this that and the other is irreleveant. This whining is symptomatic of todays societty whereby if you kick and scream loud enough people will relent even if it is against their own rules. Anything for an easy life and everyone gets a prize too. If UEFA allow this it will open up a big can of worms. How ironic that the team likely to suffer is Turkish, Fenerbache.
