The purpose of this petition is to repeal the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984, this act imposed the change of the drinking age from 18 to 21. This act and the history surrounding it clearly show a violation of state's rights. The Federal Government technically has no right to determine a national minimum drinking age, however the Federal Highway Aid Act was used as an incentive to make states comply. In Europe a lower drinking age is fairly commonplace, and yet the number of alcohol related deaths is significantly lower than that of the United States. While the Federal Government made it's choices in order to reduce alcohol-related driving deaths, there has been no significant change in the statistics over the last 22 years.
