The Chesterfield County Public School System is well known for the numerous academic opportunities it offers students, however the lack of diversity in athletic programs sponsored by CCPS falls well short of the more progressive systems in Northern VA. Adding (what may be perceived as) contemporary sports to what is now a very traditional program would enable more students to participate in school athletics, versus community sponsored programs. Participation in school sponsored sports, clubs, etc. is vital to those students seeking acceptance into institutes of higher learning, therefore those students whose athletic endeavors are not supported by their school system are at a great disadvantage. Adding lacrosse to the list of CCPS sponsored athletic programs affords more students the opportunity to realize a well rounded school experience, as well as be recognized for their talents and involvement.
