We, the undersigned, petition the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors to stop the City of Waterloo from annexing any more property east of the currant city limits in the Newell Street area. Furthermore, we the undersigned, oppose the proposal by LS Power to develop a coal fired power plant in the area around Newell and Merle Road for the folowing reasons:
1) The proposed building site is a low lying, natural water shed area that regularly retains water, especially when Elk Run Creek floods. We feel the proposed power plant will increase flood water in dewar, the wells Addition and land bordering the creek.
2) We oppose the emission of chemicals created from burning coal, including but not limited to: Mercury, Sulfur Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxide, Carbon Monoxide & particulate matter.
3) We also oppose the increase of traffic that this will create on Newell Street.

Don't underestimate the value of clean air and the value of health. Coal particulate destroys both.

LS Power needs to do more than promise that they will be a good neighbor. The concerns of county residents need to be addressed with evidence to the contrary.

I support this petition. Power plants are needed but cheap old technology coal-fired ones are not! Wind and solar electric generation schemes should be employed or at least considered beyond this coal-fired "solution" to electricity generation.

I support this petition. Consider the following article... Renewable Energy Plan Benefits Wisconsin New Analysis Says Renewables Deliver Economic Benefits to Consumers, Workers and Rural Communities and Will Help Stabilize Energy Bills in clean energy Read the full report MADISON—Over 2,000 new highly skilled jobs would be created in Wisconsin by a bill in the state legislature requiring 10 percent of the state’s electricity come from clean renewable sources such as wind, bioenergy, and solar power, according to a new study released today by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS). The study, Increasing Wisconsin’s Renewable Electricity Standard: Benefits to Consumers, Workers and Rural Communities, found that increasing the current standard from about 2.2 percent by 2011 to 10 percent by 2015 would provide a significant source of new income for rural areas, help stabilize energy bills, and provide more revenues for school districts. "Producing 10 percent of our electricity from home-grown renewable sources will be a win for workers, consumers, the environment, and especially rural communities," said Chris Deisinger, Wisconsin clean energy consultant for the Union of Concerned Scientists. "This is a start on achieving true energy independence." Legislation boosting the state's renewable portfolio standard to 10 percent will be considered by the state assembly on Tuesday, March 7. Governor Doyle has promised to sign the bill. This upgrade of Wisconsin’s RPS is consistent with the recommendations of Governor Doyle's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Task Force, a bi-partisan, multi-stakeholder group of legislators, utilities, businesses, and environmental and consumer organizations. UCS analyzed the longer-term goals of raising the renewable standard to 10 percent by 2015 and found that it would boost the state’s economy with benefits such as: 2,160 new jobs-including 960 more jobs tha
