Non au code uOttawa / No to the uOttawa code

ATTENDU QUE le Code étudiant de conduite non-scolaire proposé par l'Université d'Ottawa impose des pénalités scolaires (suspension, révocation de bourses) pour des comportements hors du contexte scolaire; et

ATTENDU QUE le Code pourrait être utilisé pour faire taire les critiques envers l'administration ou encore interdire des moyens de pression légaux, comme une grève; et

ATTENDU QUE les étudiant.e.s punis par le Code n'auront pas droit à un juste procès devant une instance impartiale; et

ATTENDU QUE ce Code ne protège aucunement les étudiant.e.s et accentue leur position d'infériorité face aux autres membres de la communauté universitaire; et

ATTENDU QUE l'administration souhaite faire adopter ce Code durant l'été sans considérer l'opinion de toute la communauté universitaire;

Nous, soussigné.e.s, nous opposons au Code étudiant de conduite non-scolaire proposé par l'Université d'Ottawa.

WHEREAS the Student Code of Non-Academic Conduct drafted by the University of Ottawa imposes academic sanctions (suspension, revocation of financial aid) for behavior not related to academics; and

WHEREAS the Code could be used to silence critics of the administration or to forbid lawful actions, such as a strike; and

WHEREAS students sanctioned by the Code will not have access to a fair trial by an impartial body; and

WHEREAS the Code in no way protects the students, and worsens their position of inferiority compared to other members of the university community; and

WHEREAS the administration is attempting to adopt this Code during the summer, without considering the opinion of the whole university community;

We, the undersigned, oppose the Student Code of Non-Academic Conduct drafted by the University of Ottawa.
