I have always supported your work whole-heartedly, but am aghast in this turn of philosophy that does not recognize life as a basic human right. Abortion is an archnemesis of woman. Support of it as a "solution" for women only serves to proliferate their abuse & subjugation. Please re-think this decision!
I support this petition because abortion is violence against a vulnerable human being. If AI goes ahead this this, they will lose the support of the Catholic community and dioceses.
The practice of promoting the destructon of unborn human life is symptomatic of mental illness and it must be counteracted with life affirming policies.
I am amazed that AI would not only condone, but promote, any sort of killing of human beings. I have supported them consistently, but would withdraw support if they jumped on such a knee-jerk PC bandwagon!
I support this petition because all life is valuable from conception to natural death with NO EXCEPTIONS (not even for rape or incest). I have manned tables on behalf of Amnesty International (for Leonard Peltier), but I have already chosen not to continue representing or donating to AI due to your lack of active defense of the pre-born, disabled and elderly from wrongful death.
I have been a member since 1987. I would hate to be forced to cancel my membership because AI betrayed its principles by failing to protect some of the weakest members of society.
because all life is valuable whether in the womb or in the world on it's own. Abortion is the ultimate form of violence against persons who have no way to protect themselves. These children have human rights too.
There is nothing more devastating than abortion! It causes physical, emotional, and mental pain that NEVER goes away, not to mention the loss of innocent life. There ARE other options - adoption!
I have supported MANY of AI's positions over the years, even when unpopular. This is one time however that I must STRENUOUSLY object, and call for AI to be CONSISTENT in its support for the rights of all.
If AI is truly a humanitarian organization, then it must work to protect both women and their unborn children. All human life should be valued - NO EXCEPTIONS.
A person's rights begin at conception. The fetus is a human being at that moment. How many great people has the world been deprived of because of abortion? Perhaps one who could have brought peace to the world!
For an organization that tracks down those who do violence or cruelty to any and all people, it is an inconsistency to turn away from those who can defend themselves the least!
because Amnesty International is an organisation the world needs and if it is hijacked by pro-abortionists, it not only destroys its credibility and moral high ground, it compromises the very thing it stands for: human rights. The unborn child has a right to life, just as much as any other individual AI campaigns for.
I am a long time member of AI and a monthly supporter and I absolutely oppose any move toward justifying abortion. It is just one more use of violence -- mortal violence! -- masked as a problem solver. It is absolutely unacceptable and I would hate to have to make a choice about continuing my support for AI - but it would make AI's efforts no longer credible. What a sleek temptation - another wolf in sheep's clothing!
While it's true that sexual violence against women is an abomination, and pregnancy resulting from systematic rape an added ordeal for the female victim and her family, this tragic cycle does not make abortion "right," much less a "human right." Rather, it imposes a death penalty on the unborn child, simply because he or she was conceived through violence. Because AI opposes capital punishment, it must not compromise its basic priniciples by succumbing to this tempting deceit.
because it seems a particular tragedy that AI, having carried the torch of the sanctity of life and human rights for so long, should be associated with facilitating the taking of life.
I am a long time member and supporter of A.I. because of their committment to promote and honor human life and rights. I strongly support this petition and will encourage others to sign it, including the Trappist monastic community that I'm close to.
They have been long time supporters of A.I.
I have admired and supported the work of AI for many years (I am 85). A declaration by AI condoning abortion as a "right" would negate that admiration and support by me and many others.
