I didn't support Amnesty International before, because of other issued, however, I am impressed that there are people taking a stand against abortion. Bravo!
Amnesty International has a great history of protecting human rights around the world. Please do not break that record with your current stance on abortion.
Abortion affects both parents, as well as the unborn child and his/her siblings. It is exclusionary and overly simplistic to recognize abortion as a "woman's choice," or a "human right." More than one person is always involved in this "choice" and the respective rights of all parties must be represented and honored.
Please consider the rights of the tiny human being with the womb. The violence that the child suffers during abortions is something that is terribly inconsistent with
AI's otherwise exemplary ideals.
because I support Amnesty International's original mission of promoting non-violence, non-discrimination, and global human rights. By advocating abortion rights, AI has undermined its own mission.
because killing an innocent human being will not help the mother, the father and the society that supports this brutal actitude. And more, this attitude breaks God´s law, of not killing otheirs.
We cannot pretend to do good in other countries when we introduce them to the immorality and shame of pre-born infanticide. This is not progress for people, and if AI is to become committed to killing children countries would be far better off without AI existing at all. To die spiritually intact is preferable to living a morally bankrupt life (after having killed your own children). The regret is indescribable and it's inexcusable to deliver people into that hell in the name of relief and humanitarian aid.
Abortion harms women and society. There are two victims in an aborion, the unborn baby and the mother. To deny the unborn child life is not in agreement with human rights.
I support this petition because I am greatly concerned that the vital work of AI will be compromised and diluted. As a longtime letter-writer and donor, I would no longer in conscience be able to be a member.
Articles 3 and 6 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirm that "everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person" and "Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law." I take these articles to apply most especially to the most vulnerable persons, the unborn. Second, support of abortion rights would dilute and detract from efforts on behalf of those tortured or unjustly imprisoned. Third, support of abortion rights would conflict with deeply held beliefs of many members of Amnesty International.
Human life begins at conception. Too many women throughout the world are coerced or forced to kill the unborn child to mollify powerful political and economic forces.
Enough! Amnesty International itself cannot become part of creating even more human suffering on a massive scale! Please, do not split the movement now by advocating a human rights violation. We need all our strength now more than ever.
As a long time supporter of Amnesty International I find it hard to believe that it would drop its neutral position regarding abortion on demand. I see nothing to gain in this move and everything to lose.
In decades of support for Amnesty International and other human-rights groups, writing countless letters to governments that practice torture, disappearance, and the violation of civil liberties, I have taken it as given that such practices are an affront to the sanctity of life. If I was wrong in so viewing life, I could have spared myself the distress of having to read reports of torture and other acts of oppression, and have done with the whole time-consuming business of letter writing. That course I will not follow. But please do not affirm a right to kill and in so doing contradict the regard for life on which your mission depends.
I support this petition because I am an Amnesty member, and I support Amnesty for what it is: a human rights organisation. No one can both advocate the worst acts of violence and retain status as a defender of the human. The laws of humanity guard the dignity and existence of human life at all times and conditions. No one can change that. For complex social and political reasons - but not genuine human rights reasons - there is wide support for "choice" positions on abortion that are devoid of any fair reflection of the true meanings of autonoumous choice, which includes responsibility for the creation of new human life and universal respect for its dignity. Amnesty will collapse if it supports abortion as if it were a "right", and certainly if it lends credence to nihilistic tendencies suggesting that destroying human life and violating the laws of humanity can be a "human right", just as surely as a "human rights" organisation that defended slavery would be a contradiction in terms. And a new, genuine Amnesty organisation would have to be established in its place, by those who are universally opposed to violence, standing against the proponents of violence. Such a parting of ways is likely to further polarise the abortion issue itself, where genuine compassion for individuals unfortunately masks a reality where every year in the world now more human lives are destroyed by abortion than the total number of human lives destroyed in the entirety of the Second world war including the Holocaust. Amnesty as an organisation has managed to avoid this dilemma for perhaps too long, but it has done so by adopting neutrality in the most fraught ethical issue of our generation, while at the same time doing good in so many other ways. Only the latter "positive" has off-set the negative of its not defending the human at all times. But an organisation that positively REJECTS THE HU
Please do not consider abortion just another human right. Although I have great respect and compassion for those who seek abortions, that is very different from simply advocating abortions. Go back to your neutral position.
I believe that ALL human life, "from womb to tomb" is sacred. I will withhold any future support for AI if they adopt supporting abortion as a universal right.
I have always supported AI in the past and would like to be able to continue to do so, in good conscience. If you make abortion part of your platform, I would withdraw any support. So would countless others.
I support ammnesty international, but I do not support abortion. Thanks for your help agaisnt the death penalty and against forced abortions in china. Please reconsider.
I have long supported AI in a variety of ways consistent with my vow of poverty, I have tried to advocate for its work for I admire its mission deeply. I ask you please to continue your defense of all life.
I will no longer be able to support your organization if you consider abortion a right. If you give parents rights to murder children, how can you be a credible witness against any other form of murder?
and it disturbs me that AI is changing its mission to champion abortion as a human right internationally. Abortion destroys babies and hurts women emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, and sometimes even physically. Many women have difficulty becoming pregnant or carrying a child to term due to previous abortions that have weakened the cervix. Please rethink your decision to embrace abortion rights. It will only hurt Amnesty and besmirk your reputation as a human rights group that saves lives and makes a huge difference in the treatment of prisoners of conscience and other marginalized, vulnerable individuals around the world. I belonged to Amnesty for many years, but I will not renew my membership if your mission changes to include abortion rights. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS. You will lose the support of pro-life people and many Catholics around the world who embrace a consistent life ethic.
because I support the right to life, even for the unborn. Children have always depended on adults for their well being, not from the moment they are born, but from the moment they are conceived.
