I support this petition. I am against abortion for any such any reason. I seriously doubt anyone would ever support such a heinous act if they were the one being aborted or could even imagine what it would be like to be the child that is being murdered.
I support this petition. Although I am staunchly opposed to elective abortion, unlike some signatories I do accept that abortion may be the lesser of the two evils in exceptional circumstances (i.e. in cases of rape or of serious danger to the mother's health). But it can never be meaningly framed as being a 'right', as this would constitute a 'right to kill'. The lack of any recognition of the rights of the unborn child, combined with AI's policy in favour of decriminalisation per se, indicates that Amnesty have decieded that the unborn child is a 'non-person' and merits no legal protection. This is quite clearly contrary to the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child, a declaration Amnesty claim to endorse. I am also concerned about the process by which this change has been imposed: a consultation with the British membership resulted in a majority against the change whilst at the most recent AGM, the British Chapter approved a policy in favour of maintaining a neutral stance. Yet these inconvenient facts have been disregarded and the democratically expressed will of the British membership has been ignored.
I have been active at the University of Dayton chapter of Amnesty International until it was disbanded following this policy change. I disagree with the switch, as you all do such good work. I have seen various takes on how to interpret the change, but I fail to see how allowing a wrong like abortion can ever right another wrong, even one as serious as rape in Darfur.
I have given money to AI in the past and support the work you do - but I am hesitant to continue to ally myself with an organization that thinks violence can be overcome using the continued violence of abortion. We should be protecting women all over the world against violence and poverty - not helping them kill their unborn children.
I have been a donor to AI and have responded to AI's campaigns against the death penalty, unjust imprisonment, and torture. I am dismayed at the change in AI's position on abortion and will reluctantly end my support of the organization.
The fact that Amnesty is deciding to make the murder of the unborn a human right goes beyond logic and intelligence. It can no longer be considered a credible organization in the least.
Please do not betray AI's proud tradition of standing up for the most vulnerable among us. The fact that an unborn fetus is small and defenseless in no way makes it unworthy of legal protection. AI should know this.
I recently became a member of Amnesty International -- just before hearing that AI was contemplating policies that would undermine its support for protecting innocent human life. I was greatly distressed by this news.
I support this because life, no matter what form, must be be respected and protected. No matter what the cost is. An unborn child CANNOT be punished because a woman changes her mind or made a mistake. That is unaccepatable and so the unborn child who cannot speak for itself must have a voice. I will help be that voice.
I have been a minimal but heartfelt supporter of Amnesty International. It is an organization to which I would contribute if I could. Babies are not property--to be disposed of. A woman told me that some people thought the baby inside her was a
To support Abortion goes against all the good that AI has done in the past. Abortion is an act of violence against the unborn child and women ... It is despicable that an organization like your own could encourage this abuse of women
This is a hotly contested area both in its implications for the rights of the unborn and for women (the clear majority of the aborted worldwide). Amnesty should no more commit to a side here than it would to a political position held by a prisoner of conscience.
I have been member since 2002. I was president of my student chapter at the University of Dayton for two and a half years, and chaired on-campus campaigns related to Latin America, the death penalty, immigration, and campaigns to free various POCs.
I have been an active local leader and member of AI wince 1982, and am currently the AIUSA Legislative Coordinator for Minnesota and a member of the AIUSA Archives Advisory Committee.
Legal abortion is the greatest exploitation against women and their pre-born children the world has ever known. We call upoon Amnesty International to hear the voices of experience, women who have had legal and illegal abortions. Our voices say, "abortion violates pregnant women by going against our basic instint to bring forth life and the natural mother/child bond." It doesn't matter how a child is concieved, what women need and want is help and support to bring her child into the world.
My father, Ernest D. Whitehead Sr. was murdered by Palliative Care/Hospice. Citizens of the United States, other countries and unborn children are murdered on a daily, hourly basis. This killing must end. Ernest D. Whitehead wanted to live and he was killed against his request to live. My brother and sister conned my mother into placing my dad in Palliative Care. She was lied to.Stop these murders. Speak out against abortion, Hospice/Palliative Care. It is murder, NOT comfort care. I caught them dehydrating my dad by laying him on plastic, covering him with blankets and turning up the heat in his room. His bedding was drenched in sweat. My mother was told he would be taken care of. He was...He was killed!!
