Abortion is not a right; it is a tragic symptom of our failure to value and
protect the lives of women and children. AI, don't lose me now! |

I have supported AI for all my adult life; I cannot remain if it views
legal abortion as a human right, rather than a moral tragedy, for mother

I have always thought that Amnesty International was apolitical, and yet,
with this proposed endorsement of so-called abortion rights, Amnesty
International will be slipping into the mire of the worst kind of politics
imaginable -- the kind that imposes death upon another human being.
Don't do it. |

I have participated in Amnesty International campaigns for 30 years. If AI
goes the route of aabortion advocacy, it will lose the universal respect
and influence it now enjoys, and sink into partisan irrelevancy. This
would be a HUGE LOSS for human rights, for conscience, and for the
suffering and oppressed people of world. |

My reply to AI:
Dear Ms. Ross,
Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately, your explanation only fuels my
conviction
that this issue will embroil Amnesty in controversy lasting into the
infinite future and at the
expense of human rights generally.
Regretably, the A.I. position expressed in your letter does not even
mention the rights of the child.
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention
on the Rights of the Child
'...the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs
special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before
as well as after birth.'
Human rights are determined by natural law, not by a vote by some subset
of A.I. members. Children have rights independently of any decision by A.I
supporters. The A.I. position contradicts its own charter and puts it at
odds with the majority on this planet who see clearly that abortion is
infanticide. I sincerely hope that A.I. will reconsider its position on
this issue.
Yours Sincerely
Dr. Philip Pennance

Amnesty International is in the business of preventing humans from being
killed or exploited. It should remember that abortion kills children and
exploits women. Feminists and others say abortion is liberation, but the
loss of a child is a major blow in all parts of the undeveloped world. I
know because I have worked in Africa. |

AI has no business denying amnesty to any member of the human race. By
considering to allow abortion, they are denying amnesty to the most
vulnerable humans. |
