Shappelle Corby. She's innocent in my opinion. No, I am not Australian, I am a 14-year-old New Zealander. As we know, Shappelle's brother had her bag so she had no idea that extra weight had been added. Also, I know how corrupt the Indonesian government is, one person I know could not get anywhere in bali until he paid a policeman. How sick is that? Everyone is intitled to their own opinions about Shappelle, but I feel she has been the victim of a cruel and heartless act. I am planning NEVER to go to Bali in my life until they clean up their act and sort out their country. It is a beautiful country, but the government spoils the beauty. FREE SHAPPELLE CORBY! AND ANYONE WHO BASHES MY OPINION SHOULD BE SHOT!!!

***Newsflash*** Bali officials have confirmed that sentencing laws are to be changed. New sentencing limits come into effect next month. These include: 1. Picking your nose in public will carry the death penalty 2. Spitting will carry a minimum of a life sentence, and if containing a sizable amount of phlegm, the death penalty 3. Murder will now carry a $10 fine, and a 1 day suspended jail sentence. These changes are to bring sentencing into line with current minor social drug penalties of death and life imprisonment

FIND THE EVIDENCE TO FREE HER. Schappelle needs evidence. This I believe is where the government can help

Yes free Ms Corby. She's innocent. I mean she must be, she's white, she's pretty and she can cry! What more proof do these heathen foreigners need? Let us take as example the following scenario: An Indonesian man gets stopped by customs at Sydney Airport with 4kg of Marijuana. During the ensuing trial in Australia his Australian lawyers dazzle the court with facts, like "I didn't do it", or "I've never seen that before in my life", or "Someone else must have put that there... in my bag." And do support these concrete facts they get a convicted Indonesian criminal currently serving a sentence to fly from Indonesia to Sydney to give evidence that amounts to hearsay. After which the Lawyers then execute a plan to stir up emotional support within Indonesia about how terrible and unjust the Australian Government, judicial system and people are in the hopes that domestic public unrest will put political pressure on the Indonesian Government to intervene directly. Yes I'm sure if this scenario (which is COMPLETELY different to Ms Corby's case) were to happen, that the Australian courts would let that fly and the Australian people would see there error of their ways. And anyone who didn't, well they're just simply UNAUSTRALIAN! Most people seem to think that Ms Corby is innocent because she willingly opened her bag in front of the customs officials. I fail to see how this proves anything. She was there, they'd given her an instruction, what can she say? No? It was too late for that, the best she could hope for was that the officers in front of her were incompetent or corrupt. Alternatively people ask who in their right mind would smuggle an item with an Australian Street value of $100k to a foreign country where the domestic equivalent would be worth only $10k. The question could also be posed as who in their right mind would attempt to smuggle drugs into a foreign country w

The following is a letter i sent to the editor of the Sydney Morning Herald I expect it will not be published! Dear Sir Your editorial (Herald, May 28-29) does not accurately reflect the public's concerns about the Corby verdict. The difficulty that many observers have in coming to terms with this rather different judicial systems lies in the fact that the prosecution did not set out to make a specific case against Corby, but rather relied on unsubstantiated words of airport workers. The concerns that we have all developed center on the fact that no finger printing was undertaken of the package, no analysis of the origins of the drug were undertaken and the Australian Government failed to react in a manner that any citizen of this fair land should be entitled - that is, to have stepped in quickly on issues of airport security (and lack thereof) and known conduct of drug trafficking through airports going back over many, many years. As a regular trans-Tasman traveller I long ago became accustomed to baggage handlers (or others) going through my checked in luggage. Hence, I ceased putting anything of value in it, just as I ceased placing locks on it after losing three in quick succession to the "inspectors" and this long before 9/11. The fundamental problem all thinking people have is that the case against Corby was not adequately proven despite the rather inept performance of her own defence team. While the verdict may have been inevitable it is clearly and manifestly unsafe. Australians everywhere have an entitlement to expect their Government (and it's ministers) to immediately set about redressing this wrong. Should they ignore this they will do so at their own peril. Polls keep on coming round. Yours sincerely Chris Rivers

Australian Airports found out that the drug smugglers were working on the day that Corby's bag went through, Her brother was carrying her boogie bag, NOT HER, so she obviously didnt feel the weight difference so they can't use that, THE BALI BOMBERS ONLY GOT 2 1/2 YEARS! After all those people that they killed! Shappelle Corby is innocent and the Bali judges can rot in hell for destroying a young girls life! Won't Be long now Shappelle you'll be home with all of your supporters! SHAPPELLE CORBY IS INNOCENT... What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty!

We Aussies can't help Schappelle directly but we can something indirectly to support her. If you plan to go Indonesia in general or Bali in particular, think again. Choose another desitnation. If you have already booked a holiday in Indonesia in general or Bali in particular, try to cancel it and go somehwere else. Hitting them where it hurts most; in their hip pocket is I think the only thing we can do to support Schappelle and until she is back in Australia no Aussie should set foot in Indonesia.
#371

Mark said 05/28/05, 2:54 am (verified)
The idiot who claimed that Schappelle should have noticed the extra weight hasn't looked at the case very closely. It was not Schappelle, but her brother who picked up the bag in Bali. She only claimed it when they were asked whose it was. I'm simply staggered that a country can have such an obviously flawed system where potentially innocent people can be locked up for decades. Indonesia is a backward country and any Australian who considers travelling there should find alternatives. There are plenty of other destinations in the world. Meanwhile, Qantas & the Australian Government have my contempt for their lack of competent response. How on earth can it be considered unimportant that baggage handlers convicted of drug smuggling were working on the day she was arrested?

The lies were appaling and obvious, the media coverage was reminiscent of the U.S. and the whole thing was more like a witch hunt than a trial by law. This is more than a question of guilt and innocence. Australia should not forget its own, until Schappelle is at least back in this country we should keep up the fight! Good luck Schappelle, stay strong.

The real reason for this injustice could very well be racism. Muslims have always been resistant to the west. Indonesian Muslims are especially angry about East Timor, Afghanistan, Iraq, and 1000 other red herring issues. They are always looking for a chance to punish the west for their backward, inferior ways. Not this time... the world is watching

Who the hell would be dumb enough to smuggle drugs in their own bag? Or even remotely near themselves if they aren't trying to hide it up their ass crack or something. If a smuggler had half a brain they would put it with someone else and be totally detached so they avoid the risk. Sounds to me like all the ppl that think she's guilty would be dumb enough to put it in their own bag since they think it's so plausible. I think one of them should trade places with corby. Boycott travel to Indonesia, deciding to spend your money elsewhere is better than letting them get away with destroying a girl's life as a political stunt.

She is found guilty after a proper conducted fair trial for a serious crime of drug smuggling which carries a life sentence in most of YOUR countries. The prosecution lawyers and defendants know more about the case than you or I can presume or assume. This scene is damn racist and prejudice for the media to focus sympathy just because she is white with tits. Show sympathy for the thousands who are innocent dying in Darfur, Guantanamo bay, Uzbekistan and Palestine; who have no chance of a fair trial.

I spent 9 years in prison in Bangkok Thailand...it was a nightmare that I am happy to say I survived. I was not innocent nor ever claimed to be, I was young and stupid and made poor choices. As far as I am concerned, it doesn't matter wether she is guilty or innocent, what matters is that she gets out of that God forsaken place alive. It truly will be worse than TV or news could ever protray. If she has to do time, let it be at home where she has a chance to turn her life around and be re-habilitated if necessary. One who has never seen it first hand could never even begin to imagine what goes on in prison in a 3rd worl country where you don't know the culture or the language. It's horrible...trust me, I lived it for 9 long years and I am happy to say I SURVIVED!!!!! Again, get her home to do whatever time she has in Australia...at least she will have a fighting chance. So as we suspected, there is no balinese word for justice!Indonesia must be given a chioce, return Schappelle, or return every cent in aid we have given them in the wake of the tsunami. As for the arguement that the case only got so much press due to Scappelle's looks, the fact that someone is attractive does not make them guilty of a crime! If this had happened to a 75 year old grandmother it would have recieved the same amount of press and the issue of press coverage would not have even been raised. And why? Because like Scappelle, a 75 year old woman just doesn't fit the profile and, more importantly, there was absolutely no solid evidence pointing to guilt and a sh*tload of evidence( which the so-called judges openly admit to disregarding) pointing to her innocence. One of our own has been railroaded by three heartless little f*cks hellbent on proving how tough their third world, tinpot little country is! Schappelle should be returned home, and indonesia should be sunk to the bottom of the ocean where it belongs. Incidentally, funny how no-one who is putting **** on Schappelle is using their real name. She needs to be brought home. Whether she's guilty or innocent, the sentence being meted out is barbaric. And the people on here and elswhere who support that sentence are sub-human.

i find this case very stupid! we are only shown what the media wants us to see. we are made to feel some sort of sympathy for her when we know nothing about the case, guys come on. stop complaining about bali, thay are doing what they are taught to do..protect their country the same as we put people away for drug smuggling here too. but then its no different. the only difference between them and schappelle is that they made a spectacle of it! we have had people bringing 100kg of the c**p here and we say nothing? cmon guys! it happens and i dont feel sympathy or anger! i think this is drawn out too far!

As a parent my heart goes out to Schappelle and the Corby family. Seeing their desparation and sheerfrustration with both Govnt's has moved me to tears. That could be any of our children innocently caught up in something like this. If this was John Howard's daughter how respecting of another nation's laws would he be ? I certainly hope that all Australians show their contempt for such a legal system and take their dollars elsewhere. Young Aussies - we have plenty of beautiful beaches and lots of bars here in Australia why go there and risk this happening to you? Guilty or innocent, how brave was that young lady trying to keep herself together under such immense stress. The strength of feeling that clearly exists on this matter threatens to undo any benefits that $1 bn of aid might have done to improve relations between our two nations.

I am disgusted, these people are animals. They blow our children up. Yes one of my freinds lost his son in the Bali Bombing. they blow our embassy up and then I hear they molest our children. How stupid do we have to be to keep on going back to this country ,to be whipped again. i am done with them. i have been there on a number of occassions, but now I am done with this savage legal system. My money will never be seen on the shores of Indonesia again. NEVER!

I agree with everything everyone else has written. Boycott Indonesia and anything to do with them. We need to stop our Government from sending any more of our money to Indonesia. My heart goes out to Schappelle and her family. If we put enough pressure on our Government surely they will have to do something to help her. This is not just about Schappelle this could be about any Australian travelling to Indonesia. They were never interested in whether she was innocent or guilty. What kind of a man can destroy a girls life without any evidence.

The standard here is 'beyond reasonable doubt'. Australians, Britons and Americans died in large numbers for that. To accept the moral equivalence of the Indonesian system is akin to accepting that of Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot or Castro. We ought to havee the guts to say to the Indonesians 'CLEAN UP YOUR ACT', and they can feel good about it by applying the sme standards to their own people.

We hear all the time about how countries should have robust friendships. This friendship is being sorely tested. We need our Schappelle home. I can say with conviction that whether Schappelle is guilty or not there will be an awful lot of Australians who will never ever want to riske traveling to Indonesia. While there is any doubt about our airports and baggage handling why WHY have their judges punished Schappelle. Whether we need to respect the Indonesian courts irrelevant. This is going to damage Australian Indonesian relations. I would encourage all feeling Australians to keep their feet and their travel dollars away from Bali and Indonesia until some gesture is made by Indonesia to make this right.

Speechless , This is an aweful thing to happen to some one , she is soo young still. 20 years she'll be over 40 before she gets out (fingers crossed for the appeal) All thoughts are will her and her family. I hope the person that put the drugs in her bag gives them selves up in her place! I am hoping the person that has targeted her is not australian , because they defently don'y deserve to be an auzzie - What a dog and gutless low life to sit back and watch and listen to this innocent girl get 20 years for something they know they did. As auzzies we all should also look at our own country in finding out the dog how set her up with this in the 1st place???? She needs to be free and come home without the hand cuffs in the comfet of her family and friends.

We gave a substantial about to the Tsuanami appeal and now we wish we hadn't. Every single Australian should now stand up and be counted and refuse to holiday in Bali. If this is the way they are going to treat one of us who is innocent we don't want to help them at all. I wanted to go to Bali ONCE but I will never set foot on their shores due to what they have done to Schappelle. I just hope that the Prime Misiter of Bali will give her a full pardon. No matter what I will never holiday in Bali as my personal boycott to the balinese. Lets see how they get on without the Australian dollar now. I just hope that Bali or Indonesia needs Australias help soon and they will see how many Australians support Schappelle and they will see they have committed a huge injustice and they will pay the ultimate price for being so narrow minded. Bali can rot in Hell. My husband and myself have said we will not support anything to do with Bali again. Now we have to get behind Schappelle and her family to have this sentence of 20 yrs revoked.

Boycott Indonesia. Will anyone again feel secure about their baggage when travelling to Asia ? This could have happened to any of us. Our friends, brothers, sisters. I DON NOT believe she is guilty, but even for a person who was guilty, a sentence of 20 years for this crime says much more about the value system of the Indonesian judiciary than it says about the Corby case, or about drug smuggling in general. The Indonesian Government should also be ashamed of the international awareness of the deplorable state of their prisons. No-one should be forced to live in those conditions, not even for a day.

I am just utterly shocked and feel gutted about the decison. What ever happened to beyond a reasonable doubt? I cant imaigine how she and her faimly are feeling. Our useless PM needs to get of his arse and do something about it. All i can say is what goes around comes around and that judge who has never aquitted any1 is going to get it bad.

It doesnt matter if shes innocent or not... i know that people will turn their heads at this, but she is a aussie. Your story has taught so many people a lesson that desperately needs to be learned about customs and international law... Just stay strong in your faith and trust that God will do great things. Know that we are all standing behind you and that you are not alone. Youre shining a light onto the world. Hold the candle high.

Fuck Bali. If you plan to go there, then you support these monkeys who run the Indonesian justice system. This girl is innocent, there is enough evidence, but these ****ers buried it. I say **** you Bali, lets see how you survive without tourism from Australia. Your children will be cleaning Schapelles cell to earn some money.

It is so pathetic that this could happen. That they could charge this girl, without any proper evidence apart from the drugs found. All you have to do is Look at how many Australian's have been targetted with the same case. The bali bomber, Now that's someone that deserves this torment, all he got a was a petty trial and a slap on the hand (20 or something years in jail). I shall never travel with or to Bail or Indonesia.
