An otherwise unremarkable drug trafficking trial made remarkable by irresponsible Australian media who have made journalism a profession not worthy of people’s trust.
I don’t want to rabble on about the trial because enough has been said and written about it but boy I really need to get my two cents worth out there. I got a lot to vent! I’m mad because I was fooled and feel shameful about the views I initially held. I want to rip into all the bull**** the pro-Corby camp have served up and throw it in their faces.
In the beginning, admittedly, I was convinced of her innocence, angry at her trial and sentence but eventually snapped out of the media induced psychosis. After a lot of reading, the facts sunk in and the shameful ugliness of the Australian public’s response convinced me I couldn’t be part of this mob so convinced she is innocent. Among my circle of friends, family and workmates etc I am of the few who believe Ms Corby is guilty, if not certainly guilty and only possibly innocent.
One thing is certain in all of this, some Australians can be very nasty and ugly, display inconsistent self-righteousness and indignation, ignorant of the facts and blind to the hypocrisy in their own backyard and if they are the majority of the so called 90% of Australians who are certain of her innocence then it’s a worry.

Traces of cocaine were found on my luggage when I arrived in Brisbane last year from America. I was frisked and questioned. Officials were naturally skeptical since none of the other luggage had cocaine detected on it. I have never done cocaine although I guess The Aussie govt could sentence me to life. My brother and I have talked seriously about diving and surfing in Indonesia- that just won't happen. I'll stick with my vacations to Australia!

Guilty or not, our so called "support" is being sent in the wrong direction. Boycotting Bali won't help her. Sending death threats to Indonesian embassador's won't help her. Withdrawing your tsunami support is just madness. We're all so proud of ourselves when we did the decent, compassionate thing and GAVE (they did not "take" as I have heard some people say..) to a neighbour in need and now we want to retract it?! Madness, uncompassionate and unhelpful. Corby has not been treated unfairly in prison, there is far too much media attention for that to happen. Furthermore, she has many months ahead in appeals so Australia needs to calm down and prepare for a longer haul than the 5 minute media frenzy has made this out to be. Those people who support Corby - well done, I'm with you. Indonesia has it's problems, as do we. People want to talk about how their country is corrupt?! How are we to talk!! I cannot speak as to whether Schappelle is innocent as I do not know all the facts. I have read what evidence was presented, and more importantly was rejected, and firmly believe that Schappelle has not had a fair trial. The court should hear all the evidence, not just what supports the prosecution.
