This is a double edged sword. We must abide by laws whether we agree or not. Defying the law is not a way to get a law changed. I feel bad for this young lady, however she did break the law. In her case the punishment does not fit the crime according to American standards.
On a different note. I may not be an English major but I do encourage you to revise your introductory paragraph and fix the mispelling of her name. Is it Schapelle or Schapella? Also you say "non-since" when I believe that you mean nonsense. Your argument and stance is much more valid when you are well composed and accurate.
