Signatures #1100 through #1200 for the Free Schapella Corby from Bali petition

I can't beleive that a beautiful, intelligent young woman who would be aware of the penelties of drug smuggling int that country, would even attempt something so stupid. I believe she is innocent. As for the Russians, don't take it out on individuals just because they were born in Indonesia. It's their Government that has wronged, & the people have no say in what their Government do. As in all other countries in the world! Don't blame a race of people because of a lousy handful of 'LOOSERS' that call themselves 'The Government'! Violence doesn't solve anything! Just complicates things more! Stay focussed on the positives of getting this woman back to Aust. & her family.

I suggest the Russian Government secretly can "invite" a son or a daughter of an Indonesian Top Authority and shove a case at an Airport with a 40kg of HEROIN in it! We'll also find seven AK-47Ms, five grenades F-1, and accuse him/her of international terrorism!!!!!! And than make a change with these monkeys!

Senator Brian Greig said 02/25/05, 7:11 am (verified)
The Australian Government should be doing more to ensure that Ms Schapelle Corby has all the assistance she needs to ensure a fair trial while overseas, according to the Australian Democrats. Democrats' Attorney-General and Justice Spokesperson, Senator Brian Greig, says the Government is picking and choosing which Australian citizens it helps and which others are left to fend for themselves if they encounter foreign difficulties. "It is very good news for Ms Corby that Gold Coast businessman, Ron Bakir is personally paying for an Australian legal team to go to Bali to assist her, but its a sad indictment on the Federal Government that such assistance had to come from the private sector," Senator Greig said. "Here is a young Australian who is facing the death penalty if she is convicted of these charges - the Government should be taking every step possible to ensure that she receives a fair trial and if the worst occurs, that she is not executed," Senator Greig said. "Instead, it has been left to a well meaning private individual to send legal help to do what the Government should be doing. "The Government's half-hearted assistance in the matter of Ms Corby is just the latest example of its increasing tendency to neglect the rights of Australian citizens incarcerated in foreign prisons. "In recent years, my office has received numerous complaints about the Government's treatment of Australians in foreign prisons. "In cases such as this, where the death penalty is a possible outcome, there is an additional and urgent need for the Government to provide assistance," Senator Greig said.

Honestly, why would anyone try to take that quantity overseas and then claim the bag is hers, if she was trying to hide something. Also due to the fact that the street value is considerably less than here, you just would not do it. The only thing she needs to take responsibility for is not locking her bag. A lesson for all travelling overseas. I am boycotting any country with the death penalty for such an outrageous and petty crime. As for the government, don't even get me started, just another subject they would like brushed under the rug, now that they hold complete power, I just wonder who will be the next victim hung up and left to dry.

Why on earth are Howard & Downer sitting on their hands over this issue. More frightened of offending Indonesia than interested in saving one of our own without doubt. The gutless inability of our miserable excuse for "leadership" makes me sick & angry and is a shame to and a reflection on every one of us nationally. The message is clear. If any Australian is in any sort of trouble or danger anywhere in the world they are totally on their own, forget about the bullshit notion that we look out for one another.

In Bali battering is their way of life, and our experiences at Denpasar Airport, confirmed to us all very stongly a system which is extremly corrupt. IT'S THE CUSTOMS OFFICER, he's the guilty one, or possibly has links with the mastermind behing the framing of her, Think about it: from a report on 60 minutes, the officer noted the bage on the ground so that he'd be the one to check it, (note that it was no the ground and not on the baggage collection, second the same customs officer deliberatly handled Schapelle's bag without glove, chances are his fingerprints were already on the bag so that if the bag was checked for fingerprints police would overlook him as a possible suspect, aslo his statement in court obviously showed he was lying: Who in their right mind even if they were drug trafficers would say "That's Marijuana and it's mine" or something like that, only a complete idiot would say something like that. If the Indonesian firing squad want's to shoot someone they should shoot him. and set Schapelle free

I have read about her case in the Sydney Morning Herald, from what I have read, she is likely innocent of the charges and was unwittingly used as a 'mule' by some unknown person. I am a U.S. citizen and am adamantly opposed to the death penalty. I urge the government of Indonesia to join the list of nations that have abolished the death penalty. I have been following Schapelles's case very closely and I pray for her often. I have written to Prime Minister Howard and to the Indonesian officials. I believe she is innocent but I really don't care either way as no way does a single 4kg bag of pot equal life in prison or death. I want Schapelle brought home immediately. I have asked that if necessay she be given a presidential pardon. She has already suffered enough. I have written to three leading Australian newspapers requesting that every Australian send letters or emails to the PM requesting her immediate release. Strings need to be pulled here and favours called in at the highest levels. If she were a politician's daughter or very wealthy she would be home already. The amount of aid that Indonesia gets from Australia is mind boggling and the number of lives saved by Australians and Australian contributions in the recent tsunami is huge. All we ask for in return is ONE life. I am still thinking of ways to help Schapelle and I will never give up on this until we get her home. from Gary McCleary Head Teacher Mathematics
