this country is really going to take away someone's life for being in possession of a plant?? this is an outrage. they should be saving their prison space for violent criminals who pose a real danger. let the punishment be equal to the crime (if you consider it a crime.) they are the real criminals to commit murder without cause. set her free now!
Shouldn't the negative drug test results be enough? How many actual dealers do you know who don't use the drugs themselves? Free this young woman! How could you even consider ending such a young life? What an inhumane place Indonesia must be!
This is an outrage...the government there should know better .. their drug smugglers have been doing this for years!!! Im appalled, disheartened and sick! Secondly, yes marijuana is an illegal substance BUT nothing to be executed over! there are people in that country and other countries doing far worse things....too many words to say about our world...too many. how people can look down on another human life and have no feeling what so ever....its dissgraceful!
There should be peace in this world!Despite any mistake one person does, no one is perfect so get that in your head! Life is precious and this isn't fair AT ALL. Let her free. She's a beautiful human being
When wil we as citizens of this eaqrth learn that there is nothing more sacred, more precious than life itself, and start putting dignity and humanity before ignorance and and brutality. For those Indonesians insulted by our petition, I say shame on you. I have spent tireless hours working on Tsunami relief for the people. But for your government to turn towards the world and say we neither want or need your help, and stop telling us how to run our country....you are doing an incredible disservice to your people. We don't want to run your country, but you are threatening our sister's life and we will not stand for it. We will see her freed, we will see her home, and we will see hope for all of us in that event.
I am outraged at the way Ms. Corby is being treated. I can't believe that Murderers, Rapists and Terrorists get away easy, while this woman faces death over some weed. She had no intention of hurting anyone and deserves to be released. This injustice must be stopped.
Release her. This is not humane to withold someone from a life for carrying god given plants. This is natures pain killer. It does more good then negitive. Lets legalize this and all live in harmony.
Release her.
Please do not put this woman to death over something so trivial as marijuana. She is not a dangerous person, she is not a child molester, rapist, murderer, or terrorist. We understand and respect your views, laws, and rights but we feel that the punishment she is recieving is entirely too harsh for the crime committed. I personally do not feel that marijuana should be treated in the same aspect as crimes that would bring harm to others. Please think critically and rationally on this matter, because this is a human life we are talking about. A HUMAN LIFE. Not an object, not a game, not a toy, but a real human life. Think if it were someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone from your family, or one of your friends. Please try to think of it on real terms, this is real life...not just more numbers.
Now listen i dont smoke weeed ...i use to but i stoppped due to reasons and i dont think that shit girl should get put to deathh for smuggling it in basically how bout u just exile her from your country and fine her she already had her punishement being in of ur jails...and another thing ur askin all these countries to help u guys out cause a tsuami hit ur country and ur gettin all the support from all ova and u realize ppl care...how bout u look at her support and look at all the ppl that care bout her
We as a people need to learn to respect the value of human life. Though she should have known fucking better, it is still rediculous to sentence anyone to death for anything less than.
I smoke multiple pounds in a months period of time.....You can't dictate what is "personal amounts of marijuana" I never sell my pot and i go through well over that amount in a year.
i hope u dont have to go to jail i hope everything is ok and that u get to go home where u belong and jail is where u defentaly dont belong i hope my signerature helps and i will do my best to help u out too well
Peace
The penalty of death is disproportionate for the crime as it stands. Over 8 pounds of pot is a bit over the top for arguing personal use, and Indonesia does hold the right to make their own laws, but to end a life over a naturally occurring substance is just wrong. I just canceled my dive vacation for summer. Indeed, this will not be forgotten.
I am astonished by the number of signatures requesting mercy for a drug smuggler.
I would like to comment on boycotting Indonesia, well who cares if you boycott, it is a sovereign country that has the right to construct their laws based on what they believe in. This is their system, and people must respect their system in order to be welcomed there, if you don't respect their system then STAY AT YOUR HOME AND YOUR COUNTRY AND DON'T TRAVEL ABROAD. In my opinion she deserves to be punished strictly and to be sentenced for a long period of time. A death penalty might be harsh for Cannabis, but at the end of the day, she must be punished for what she has committed. I don't believe that the Australian Government will free an Indonesian convicted of drug smuggling. Again, I have seen she was trying to smuggle 4.5 Kilos of Cannabis, which is too much, and seriously she deserves to be punished for life time sentence, or if the Indonesian court sentences her for execution then I respectfully request the Indonesian's government to request an official letter from the parliament of Australia to apologize for their citizens behavior, to pledge working firmly on tracking down those drug smugglers originating from Australia and to kindly request the Indonesian Justice to lower down the sentence to imprisonment. Anyhow Indonesia is a sovereign country and they know more about their country's situation in this war against drugs and this load of Cannabis could have harmed a lot of innocent civilians in Indonesia, whom don't know anything about the dangers of Cannabis, she is taking the role of Satan in an ugly human form.G-d blesses Indonesia, and Indonesia will always be great by its culture, history, religion and civilization.
Keep up the good work Indonesia.
I advise the author of this petition to be more serious in his petitions next time, Good Luck, Mr. BOYCOTT.
The comments written herein from so many humanistic minded people clearly point out the injustice of this situation. I think the Indonesian government, in light of the recent humanistic efforts being made by the global community to help its citizens recover from the Tsunami, would embrace the opportunity to show its concerns for human life and publicly demonstrate ITS passion of human justice, by releasing this young woman. I too pray for her immediate release and fair treatment.
To the Indonesian Government: On the matter of Shapella Corby.
For whatever reason the Indonesian government has deemed marijuana illegal. Whether it’s because they fear for what will become of their children…for what will become of the future. Or because it doesn’t represent the reputations of its religious leaders and the belief system they have carefully laid out, which in turn threatens their already weak grasp on its society and more specifically…their women. Or maybe its just because they haven’t figured out a way to capitalize and profit from it. But whatever the reason is, they are not alone in this fight against drugs. This is an issue that spans the globe and will continue to, for some time.
Whether or not the war is won or lost isn’t even consequential in this matter. But what is, is the fact that any human being need only look within and ask the question; as to whether ending a human life, is a punishment fitting for the crime commited by Shapella Corby and they will know that it clearly isn’t so.
Has the human race regressed so much, that we can not see the teachings of our own ancestors. What was once considered a gift from the gods, used as an offering to one another in the name of peace. Something, that used to bring people of differing backgrounds and beliefs together under the protective promise of a truce. Is now the very thing being twisted in such a manner as to divide them.
To review our history as a race, is a lesson in forgiving our enemies their trespasses and understanding that just like you, they are fallible. This action will not shelter your children or protect the future, nor will it serve the leaders in holding its grasp. The message sent will be one, which perpetuates feelings of sadness, hate and injustice. Feelings which have not served us well, as individuals or nations. Please spare this woman her life and in so doing declare to the world, your gods and your family what is right.
Thank you,
Tis
Statistics and things written on paper, conversing on laws, and human rights, can cause unjust death. How long will rediculous punishments be justified, in order to go in accordance with these humanly constructed, ever changing, money fueled laws written on important paper, by important people, with important powers to preserve. The word preserve, contains the word "serve"; Who is being served what, and why?
There is no excuse for killing, whether its state executions, wars to protect jobs, or any other reason/excuse. It is NOT a deterrent [The USA has Death penalty and they have more murders than anyone], it is NOT "Justice" because it is a punishment which is retribution aka Revenge. Taking Revenge should never be confused with being Just.
The US politcians, The one Running Bali, the ones all over the world are pretty much the same in that they will do whatver they can to increase their power base, no matter how many lives they will destroy or how much of the planet they mess up in the meantime. enough is enough STOP IT!
I hope things work out for Ms Corby.
And the woman's looks are nothing to do with it, she needs help like others in the world need help.
Remember whatever is done to one of us is done to us all. and whatever is done to millions is done to you as an individual.
That goes for all you governemnts and individuals out there who think that 6 billion people are gonna take it forever.
Sooner or later we will all wake up and this madness WILL end.
After reading this case in several articles, I am moved to pray for both this young woman and for the Indonesian government. I realize that the Indonesian people are doing their best to keep narcotics out of their country. After being struck with such a powerful natural disaster, I pray that the people will seek to grant mercy upon other victims of unjust circumstances. Please free this young women, and allow her to give testimony to the world of Indonesia's great strength through mercy.
I Live in canada, where marijunaa laws are undergoing review, and i firmly believe, as a habitual user of marijuana, that marijuana is in no way dangerous, and that the US war on drugs has wasted billions upon billions of dollars, fighting a losing war. These laws in the US and In every other country in the world should face the truth about it: IT'S 100% SAFE!!! Thank You
That is absurd that the country that fought so hard for it's independence from the dutch and kept the japanese away from colonializing them could be this harsh. That is something you'd expect from a an imperialist country to inflict on their colonies as far as laws go and for the amount of time that has passed for the alleged crime the investigation seems far too short and far too incomplete in an amount of time to inflict such a harsh punishment inprisonment is probable but execution is an outrage I really hope you weigh the consequences especially in this time of need for your country have there not been enough lives lost within the last two months on indonesian soil. Many in need may suffer repercussion's due to many that would be unwilling to lend assistance due to spiteful feelings that would be generated if this travesty of justice were to be allowed.
4.1 KILOS is a lot of pot! i in no way think she deserves death. i blame it on the presure the u.s. puts on other coutrys but i still think it's way overboard and the u.s. laws are WAY to srtict too.
I can't believe how insane the Indonesian officials are. I believe death penelty should ONLY be used for murder. How can the put someone to death for such a minor offense? 6 months to one year in prison maybe, but death? I cannot believe such a bogus law exsist.
the death penality is vry skeptical. most ppl feel strongly about their views, and so do i. i belive violence is not the anwser, especially death. it might b consittered justice, but justafied or not, its still murdering. in america it is stated 1 nation under god. god has appointed one of the comandments, thou shalt not kill. and im quite sure that in all the other major religons death is not smiled upon ur god/savior. i dont kno the crime, but im sure sentencing her to death will be right.
CIA World Fact Book: Indonesia. Industries - apparel, footware, tourism. "Investors face problems including an inadequate justice system. Go ahead, execute a photogenic western woman for marijuana. Are you familiar with the term "Backlash"?
this is the most retarded thing iv ever herd of to sentience one to death for a plant is immoral since when is a plant more important then human life who ever made this law needs the death sentience i say. the one responsible for this law need there head marched threw the town on a pike or they should at least be assassinated and raped in the most cruel way ill leave you to this thought
