Has anyone thought that her luggage was weighed in at the airport, surely there is a record of this in the 'big brother' system and can be checked against the weight it was on arrival, how can she have transplanted it once the bag had been checked in! We are thinking of you, stay strong Schapelle.
A death sentence is simply not justifiable at all, especially as there is no certainty that this person is absolutely guilty of the crime and especially as this crime does not warrant such harsh and inhuman punishment.
Capital punishment does NOT deter criminal behavior. Just because the US does it doesn't mean that you should also. As a matter of fact, taking a stand against capital punishment is one of the most ethical things that you could do.
By law, the chief culprit here is QANTAS, and the Brisbane and Sydney Airports. They allowed a huge 4kg bag of cannabis to be shipped from Australia to Indonesia.
That shows an abject failure of their security procedures, not to be able to pick up 4kg a bag of cannabis. It is gross negiligence that could expose them to a million-dollar lawsuit for what their failure to provide security has led to.
Ms Corby in fact has nothing to do with the event because the drug should not even have been placed on the aircraft departing Australia. It should have been picked up by inspectors or other security measures QANTAS and the airports are LEGALLY obliged to fulfil. They, and not Corby, committed the offence of a failure to provide that, which led to this incident.
This situation certainly puts me right off any visit to Bali or any part of Indonesia. If Australian and Indonesian AIRPORTS and AIRLINES CANNOT GUARANTEE the security of my baggage .... what a risk I would be taking by a simple visit! No way! I'm not willing to take that risk. The "Camel Suit" case in Australia is an example of how easy it is to tamper with passenger baggage. How can you accuse a passenger of carrying drugs when it is so easy for someone else to tamper with their baggage?! If the Indonesian Government wants to set a tough example to the world, why don't they come down hard on airlines/ airports and their staff who have access to the baggage, instead of helpless innocent passengers?
There are some irrefutable facts:
1) The quantity of drug (4.1kg) is for commerical sale, being far too large an amount for private use. It was shipped on an airline. It is thus fair to state that the purpose was to freight it from one city to another, in a smuggling operation.
2) The expected destination could not have been Bail. Commercial prices for this drug in Bali are extremely low, but high in Australia.
3) A passenger literally cannot check in a bag containing that amount of cannabis on an international flight without it being detected by mandatory sweeps by dogs and inspectors on all outgoing baggage. It must have been placed in the bag by a baggage handler or person with direct access to a plane's cargo hold.
4) The suspect does not have any recorded or hearsay history of criminal activity, drug-use or mental illness.
Conclusion:
The suspect had neither motive nor means to commit the crime. The case is based on falsehoods and must be reexamined in light of provable facts. Provable facts exonerate the suspect. It is only false beliefs that maintain suspicion of the suspect because no logical or circumstantial facts can support it.
I think the only thing this girl is guilty of is not locking her bags. And if it was hers why would she freely open the bag for customs in Bali??? It just doesn't make any sense.
This whole situation is sad, anyone who has travelled in the region will be able to tell you how corrupt the place is, and to quote someone else (Sorry I don't know who said it) "and considering that convicted terrorist Abu Bakar Bashir has only been sentenced to two years and six months jail (with the prospect of appeal) for his proven 'conspiracy' participation in the Bali bombings that killed 183 people, in the same country, it is inconsistent" I'd say not only inconsistent but absurd. Lets hope your Aussie government are able to do something about this. Sadly I suspect the Indonesian government will see this as a huge bargaining tool instead of a simple humanitarian issue.
"drug smugglers are the scum of the earth and they have proved this by letting this poor innocent girl take the blame for their gutless efforts as for the indonesians who wish to execute this poor girl maybe when i took your "militia" troops prisoner in east timor in 1999 i should have used "guilty until proven innocent" on them seems only fair you gutless little yellow fucks" Brendan #6997 hahhahahahahhaha
I'm with ya B! Firing squad? Ridiculous!!!
What has happened to Schapelle could happen to any of us at any time if we need to travel outside Australia. It is very frightening.
It is obvious that she did not do what she is accused of - If she had the 'stuff' then how could she have got past the Australian airport checkpoints?
Anyone else out there scared to travel now - especially to Bali.
I pray for you Schapelle and want to see you safely back in Oz.
The Death Penalty should never even be an option let alone in such a dubious case. I cannot speak for teh innocence or otherwise of Ms Corby but I am sure that such a primative punitive punishment is NOT the way to a peaceful and harmonious future.
I respect that Indonesia has its own set of laws and customs. I understand that as a country they can make legal decisions that must be obeyed by all that live and visit there. Does the Indonesian government realise however that Australia and its people contribute a substantial amount to its financial survival?
The United Nations charter mentions that they are "determined to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights (and) in the dignity and worth of the human person". They also state that some of the UNs purposes include "to be a centre for harmonising the actions of nations" and to bring about "settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach in the peace" (Chapter I, Article 1; Charter of the UN )
It is clear that Australians are not happy with how Ms Corby has been treated. In the eyes of the global community, her rights have been ignored. Without knowing the full details of what the Australian foreign affairs minister has said or done, he should have expressed Australias view that she has been treated unsatisfactorily and that as Indonesias neighbour, the Australian people do not look at the situation with anything but revoltion. In the interest of fostering good neighbourly relations they should allow at the very least submit this case to an independent tribunal. I believe that the evidence speaks for it self that Ms Corby is INNOCENT.
I do not wish to over dramatise the situation, but wars have been started over less. I fail to see what the Indonesian government expects to gain from prosecuting Ms Corby. Making "an example" out of her will only generate hate towards Indonesia and will adversely affect their tourism trade.
In my opinion, justice will not be served by the death of Ms Corby. She is an innocent human being who has had the misfortune to be caught up in someone elses drug trafficing. She should be set free.
I believe she is innocent, there is no way she would of got those drugs through Sydney undetected I mean come on we all saw how much weed was there, it wasnt a small amount, it is so obvious that she was set up
Taking drugs INTO Bali doesn't make sense - they're much more valuable in Australia. Ms Corby apparently found the drugs herself (as reported by one news report quoting her) - it doesn't make sense for her to then meekly hand over the bag to Customs in Bali. Corruption in government in Indonesia is WELL KNOWN - it doesn't make sense to not investigate the alternatives. This whole affair doesn't make sense. Surely, if the Aistralian Gov. is giving Indonesia a billion dollars in tsunami aid, it could insist on a fair independent investigation as this involves both countries - not just Indonesia - and taking the death penalty OFF the agenda.

It seems pretty unlikely you'd take drugs into Bali! They're all over the place.
Between bombings and firing squads maybe we should not have flights going there.
i cannot put in words how bad i feel about this.if ever a person was innocent.this girl is.to think of these indonesians that murdered the timorese people, have the death sentence for this innocent girl.very nearly reduces me to thinking at their level. thank christ im aussie.you hang in their chapelle,we all luvya.jono.
I do not know much about this case or Ms Corby, but I do know that if she is executed it will not solve the drug problem in the world today.
I put this question to the Indonesian government or any goverment around the world who has the some view.
By executing Ms Corby will it make your country more DRUG FREE? Or will better education, employment, good health and love improve their lives and ours.
I ask the Indonesian government to please reconsider Ms Corby case and set new example for the rest of world to follow, by sending her home, ( back to us in Australian).
It is disgusting and barbaric in this day and age that a 'death penalty by firing squad' law exists, and that an Australian citizen should be subject to it. This law is out-dated and inhumane, and considering that convicted terrorist Abu Bakar Bashir has only been sentenced to two years and six months jail (with the prospect of appeal) for his proven 'conspiracy' participation in the Bali bombings that killed 183 people, in the same country, it is inconsistent and absurd that another person should face the death penalty for (allegedly) smuggling cannibis into the country.
We believe you are innocent Schapelle our thoughts and prayers are with you. Don't give up
Given the latest incident at Melbourne airport, there is now proof that baggage handlers tamper with luggage. She is obviously just a poor unfortunate soul who has been caught up in others efforts for greed and destruction. Stay strong Schapelle, we believe in you!
Why is it nearly everywhere else in teh world its innocent till roven guilty.Doesnt seem to be the case there.I believe you are innocent my prayers and thoughts are with you Schapelle, stay strong and never stop fighting for your freedom cause we wont.
I cant believe Schapelle Corby might be facing the death penality! They have no proof whatsoever that it was hers in the first place. What if they shoot her and then in a few months find out she is innocent? They cant bring her life back can they? Its absolute bullsh!t!!!! Good Luck Schapelle...love ya!

After reading the facts I believe Schapella should be given a FAIR trial. The case OBVIOUSLY hasn't been fully investigated. If the Gov. go through with this, they will be killing themselves too!!!!!
This is a farce Indonesia - the whole world knows it and most certainly all Australians. Our recent sympathy for you and yours is quickly turning in to antipathy. Do the right and moral thing and free Schapella.
How many Aussie travel to bali every year and boost the economy of bali how much has our country helped them in their time off need and this is THANKS?
Australians will not stand for this kind of treatment of its people. Free Schapell. The toursim industry will die without us, so come on Alexander Downer, use the power you have to do the only justice Schapell deserves.
Sort it out! Why would someone smuggle weed in to Bali?? It's as cheap as chips over there, LET HER OUT...there is no way I will travel near Indonesia until their primitive justice system is sorted out. It is amazing that a guy who blows up hundreds of people gets a smack on the wrist, while a girl who had drugs planted on her may die??? STAY STRONG.
When this first happened I was not sure whether or not Schapelle was innocent or not, but after keeping tabs on proceedings im certain shes not. Stay strong, Australia is behind you and you will be coming home soon!
I can't believe how much money the Australian public spends in Bali and other parts of Indo each year and how much we helped them after the Tsunami and this is thanks we get. Thanks Indo, Thanks alot we really appreciate.
Maybe they should concentrate on rebuilding Banda Ache and Nias instead.
