This is a truely shocking situation. I would imagine there is a record of her checked in luggage weight. No? Can't the air line bring up baggae information from when she checked in at the australia airport...4.1 kilos is substanial amount to be added to a bag. I believe she is innocent.
#876

Nicole Kuster said 02/17/05, 7:41 pm (verified)
I don't believe she is guilty. 4.2 kilograms in a non sealed bag? Someone has to be very stupid to smuggle a large ammount of drugs like that!

#871

Chris Hagen said 02/17/05, 7:10 pm (verified)
I think she's guilty. I think she did the crime and she has to accept the punishment of the government. It's not like they invented the law just for her, it was already there and she broke it. If she gets death then she only has herself to blame.
#870

Darkfalz said 02/17/05, 7:08 pm (verified)
I hope she gets the firing squad. Women need to learn that equality cuts both ways, nobody would care if this was some MALE who got caught. Send her to hell where she belongs.

#867

B.Brysse said 02/17/05, 6:45 pm (verified)
These are medieval laws and why would somebody smuggle cannabis into Bali, I'm pretty sure there's no lack of drugs in countries like that. Schapella is obviously the victim of a setup. I hope that the death penalty or any punishment can be avoided. This is really out of this world, let the poor girl go back home. I hope that this petition and other actions will help and that the Australian government will do something about this!
#866

C.Hunter said 02/17/05, 6:30 pm (verified)
It is simple...all Australians should boycott Bali and greater Indonesia until this woman is released. A persons life is worth a lot more than a pillow case of marijuana.

#864

Meaghan Swire said 02/17/05, 5:37 pm (verified)
There's definently something shady going on here, the whole story seems as though it was a set up,who in their right minds trys to smuggle drugs in a boogie board bag knowing its going to get inspected, sounds like a set up to me, i smell a rat.... the indonesian government, bombings of clubs, then embassy's now this, if this is not an attack on Australians i dont know what is, i know i will never be going to bali. Guilty or not no one deserves to be caged & treated let alone exicuted inhumainly, no one deserves to die by firing squad. Whats our governemt doing about this, you need to get off your asses and help get our Aussie back. Why isint the australian quarrentine stepping up to the plate surley the luggage was checked before departure!

Nobody has the right to take a life. Cannabis is a plant that gives benefits to the user without them getting addicted or harmed in any way. The only person who ever died from it was someone in Los Angeles when it fell on their head from a plane. I read a study of rats who had been fed cannabis until their stomachs burst with no other detrimental effects. However, alcohol kills many people, more than heroin, causes cancer and other awful diseases and is encouraged by pubs being built on every street corner. There's no health warnings on bottles of alcohol even though it causes more cancer than tobacco. Carrots are deadly. you can die from carotene poisoning after you turn orange
#860

Alan said 02/17/05, 3:59 pm (verified)
Guilty or not capital punishment is out of all proportion with the _alleged_ offence, she is clearly not getting a fair trial and the Australian government should be stepping in.

#854

Marcus said 02/17/05, 1:47 pm (verified)
Why does Australia allow its citizens to be subject to flawed legal systems. If Shapelle is guilty, then let her be charged, but not with the death penalty, but if the evidence convicting her is not "beyond reasonable doubt" then she should be freed.
#853

Michelle said 02/17/05, 1:39 pm (verified)
Death is not an option. Wake up Mr Howard and give Ms Corby the rights and freedom she deserves as a fellow human. Allow her to be treated by a civil law system not the Indonesian prehistoric system.

*ANYONE* who places value on human life and justice needs to stop supporting Indonesia / Bali by travelling there or doing any sort of business with them. I'm all for respecting other people's beliefs and ways, as long as they don't hurt others. Killing people for doubtful pot crimes well and truly crosses that line! Just say NO ... to Indonesia!
#847

Teegan said 02/17/05, 11:47 am (verified)
In no way is death a just punishment for drug possession.Such an unjust act does nothing but precipitate hate and opposition for the government. No one has the right to take a life, not even the government.
#846

David said 02/17/05, 11:42 am (verified)
This is just another terrorist act to kill Australians. When we we realise that the Jihad has begun and Schapelle Corby's detention is an act of war. For evry tourist that visits Indonesia and every dollar you spend buying their products, you arm them further. The bag left her possession the minute she handed it to the worker at Brisbane airport. There is the loss in the continuity of the evidence. Not guilty, case closed. But not in the Indonesian courts eh. Be warned. If you travel to Indonesia you risk the same fate as Ms Corby. Stay away and visit a civilised country instead. Question: does the family need any money to assist in the defense? If yes, how do we donate? I'd rather spend my hard earned taxes on freeing Schapelle Corby than freeing Iraq anyday. Mr Howard... hello...

#843

Derek Taylor said 02/17/05, 10:52 am (verified)
Regardless of whether Schapelle Corby is guilty or not, the death penalty for possessing some weed is totally excessive and unjustified. Given that the Australian people and government have recently shown a great deal of generousity towards certain parts of Indonesia, I think some clemency in this case would be approriate.

Why is the Autralian Government so quiet? No way has she done, corruption in Indonesia is so rampant, her biggest mistake was probably not bribing the stupid custom officer to let her pass.
