Well this forum gives me pause to see the makeup of the people who call themselves Australians.
What a diverse group.
Truth is, we don't know if she did it. Stranger things have happened. We can't decide that ourselves because the drug wasn't intercepted here.
There's a chance she did it. That's why they have the trial. There's also some chance she didn't do it. She may have done it for fame, to make money from her story, for any number of reasons.
She may be an unwitting victim also of others' actions.
Just because she's female, young, white, Anglo-Saxon etc. doesn't mean she's innocent. Her illness may just be bad timing - six months in the hold can do that to you compounded with critical appearances she has to make.
Here's a final list of what I think is crazy about this forum:
1) People going on and on and on about the firing squad/death penalty. We don't even know if the prosecution are asking for that FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!!!! And if they do the judge might not grant it, or sentence her to that option. Also, there is a probability the sentence will be served in her home country anyway, due to recently enacted treaties.
2) "I truly believe she is innocent" type comments. No offence but I couldn't give a damn what you believe. Get some evidence together and say why or why not.
3) Cut tsunami funding, boycott Bali etc - isn't that a bit soon? If they convict, then it's different, but we're only in the trial phase. Why do you jump to conclusions without any evidence? You're very quick to decree the truth but grossly deficient of substance to justify it.
4) Bakir (Bali bomber) got this, she gets that. Apparently there were some death sentences handed down to the actual bombers themselves, not the clerics behind it.

Justice can only be done in fair and just society, in which we do not live.
Where there is doubt
and there are many in this case, she must be presumed innocent. I do not trust the so called justice system it has failed us to many times. the justice system is blind. Free Schapelle, that would be justice.

What if she is guilty? What if she did do this. This is what the court room process is about, finding out if she did it or not. Why does everyone here automatically asume she is innoncent because she says she is? If this was the other way around and we have an Balinese person taking in we, the public wouldnt care an inch. Yes the conditions of jail are different, but this is their country and we cannot tell them how to do things. Time will tell if she did it. Amazing how she got ill and more and more little stories keep popping up.

Even if this person IS guilty (which seems totally implausible) there is no way known that the death pernalty is at all appropriate. Like most peple who've signed this petition, I am really depressed and scared by all that I have witnessed with this case. Hey but she may be found not guilty! I really hope for the sake of the world that a flawed bureaucracy does not kill an innocent person.
The reason for the tough drug laws in Indo are because of conservative muslims, same thing happens in western countries with christian conservatives. This is all a result of right-wing politics.

My heart goes out to Schapelle & her family. Not even the dumbest of dumb drug runner would put such a big bag of marijuana in such an obvious place. Does the word "trial" mean anything to you? She was caught with the drugs, do you think they should just let her go with no trial because she's Australian and a female?

She's not being held for no reason, she's being held because a great big bag of drugs was found in her luggage. There has to be a trial, questionable motives or not. There are a lot of crimes people do that make no sense, but people still do them. It's not any kind of defense.

As soon as I heard about the case I thought "who would take drugs there". To me, it seemed ridiculous to take drugs from point A to point B, when the drug was worth more in point A. There needs to be a motive for this crime and it isn't apparent. I'm sure the conspirators of this plan, wanted to intercept the loot in Australia. This case is just sickening. I hope this teaches people the dangers of traveling to third world countries like Indonesia. It would be an outrage if she gets the death penalty for this and a disaster if she has to spend her life behind bars for something she didn't do. I hope she can get back to Australia soon.

A case like this touches all of our hearts especially when you are a mother yourself. Of all my friends and colleagues l am yet to find one that says she is guilty. We have all talked about it in great length and there are too many bizarre circumstances surrounding this case. I know that people will still be skeptical but surely in todays society we must look at both sides and have some faith in the accused when those like Schappelle deny any involevent. Yes the Indonesians are beautiful smiling happy people however their justice system needs to be addressed. We dont treat people like that from their country here in Australia. I believe they are making an example of Schappelle. The chance of this girl

We should be flooding politicians with letters demanding they step in and help release Schapelle. Remember the boycott against French products after Muroroa Atoll nuclear testing? Why not boycott Indonesia? Governments only respond when their economy is threatened.
