Most carseats that are manufactured expire after 6 years after that date. It is important that craigslist stop this for the safety of babies and childrens. Carseats expire because the plastic on them breaks down, weakens, and eventually turns into plastic dust. After the carseats expiration date, the plastic on the shell of the carseat and the carseats base is too weak to withhold a car crash. A lot of people don't know that carseats expire so a lot of people are buying these carseats off of craigslist.com and risking the safetyand lives of their child, without even knowing it! This petition could save lives of babies and children.

Another reason not to buy/sell/give away/acquire a used carseat is because you don't know the history of a carseat - specifically if it's been in a wreck (ANY kind - large or small) that has compromised its safety (most damage you can't see). Yes, a carseat can be an expensive item to buy, but is risking the safety or life of your child more important than saving money?

Carseats are sold in all price ranges for a reason. If a person truly can't afford one on their own I'm sure they could get family and friends to help. Afterall the safety of a child can not have a price tag!!
