This kind of discrimination is what led me to leave N.Ireland will it ever end? - End the Ban it will make a good and valuable site even better - keep up the good work!
End the discrimination. However it is no suprise that the British Governemnt refuse to support Daily Ireland as it supports the message of Freedom Justice and Peace. 3 Words the Britsih Government have no time for. END THE BAN
British Governments refusal to put job opportunities into the Daily Ireland can only be put down to their fear that the paper will grow to outstrip other national papers - their answer to fear is to ban and exclude.
It becomes clear that the British Government will encourage debate and discussion as long as the views expressed merge with their own. Daily Ireland's reporting of Nationalist viewpoints clearly don't lie within that parameter.
As a child and teenager growing up in Belfast {late 70's & 80's} I was unfortunate enough to face the twice 'overt' tool of discrimination due to being a 'black working class Catholic {Black Fenian ******* as it was put at that time, by aspects of the establishment}. Therefore as an adult I in my own small way have attempted to stand against Inequality, Discrimination, Racism, Sectarianism and many other forms of injustice. This, from whatever side, or from whatever quarter it comes from.
Yet this 'policy' though, in relation to the Daily Ireland newspaper is, I believe, a throw back to yesteryear. A situation from which many had thought and hoped we had begun to move on from.
I would have thought that those of my generation and younger would not have had to witness such similar ‘overt discrimination’ arising once again. It seems to me, watching this situation unfold that we seem in some instances to be going backwards and not forwards. There are no ifs, or no buts about this situation, what is being done here is quite simply wrong and needs to be firmly challenged by all who stand against discrimination.
.
Discrimination in the provision of goods facilities and services is unlawful. Discrimination to achieve the elimination of an upholder of truth is immoral.
The Daily Ireland has been a welcome addition to a media more interested in pursuing friends in the right places than exposing the truth about the lives of ordinary people here. Their work on the lives of the new underclass, the minority ethic and migrant communities has been an example to all of good journalism. It would be sad to lose a paper that has shown more integrity in its short time with us than the rest put together.
The British government don't want this paper to survive - neither do many in the political establishment north or south - do your bit - buy it, sign this and get everyone you know to do the same
Does this policy not go against the tenet and spirit of the Good Friday Agreement? Reconsider the long-term implications of such actions in denying anyone equal opportunity.
Clearly unjust , it is reminiscent of the ban placed upon government advertising in the old Daily Worker(now Morning Star) on grounds of pure political prejudice. Lift the ban!
This ban on recruitment advertising discriminates against the nationalist community at a time when nationalists are twice as likely to be unemployed as unionists.A Tactic that saves them having to advertise as "NO CATHOLIC'S NEED APPLY"!
Daily Ireland is a wonderful, positive thing to happen in West Belfast. It brought much needed employment and a belief in a better future. I think it is a disgrace that Nationalists and their businesses are being blatantly discriminated against in 2005.
