STORY:
There is a little girl. A happy, pretty and excited little girl who no doubt adores her life. children live for the moment everyday of their lives, but one day something terrible happens to this little girl.
There is a driver. A selfish, ignorant and incompetent driver, who's ego has got the better of him. He's travelling fast, overtaking and showing off to his friends what he can do. The road ahead is unclear, but still the driver continues to accelerate, exceeding 20mph over the speed limit for the zone.
Then it hits him!
After a moment of silence, it becomes all too apparent.
The body of this once beautiful and adorable girl, lies lifeless in the middle of the road.

THE PROBLEM:
The problem here is evident and is manifested throughout the perverse methods of punishments exercised in the British Criminal Justice System.
This Driver will probably walk away with as little as a fine and a driving ban. Pathetic, given the fact he has just taken the life of an innocent little girl.
It's sad to think that you can kill someone and walk away a free man, but if you happen to refrain from paying your taxes (which is obviously no where near as severe as taking a life), you are sure to be facing an immediate custodial sentence. It happens, we see it on the news all too often. This is totally unacceptable and more to the point, shows the true corruption of the Criminal Justice System right before our eyes. Thousands of people are killed every year on our roads due to reckless and dangerous driving. 79% of offenders are convicted of their offence, but as forementioned the majority end up with a fine and a mere driving ban, and still 21% of cases remain unresolved.
Something needs to be done about this appaling system in dealing with this charge, and I ask for everyone who is in favour with this petition to sign it, because tomorrow it could be YOU who is the victim.

FINAL NOTE:
Although we urge for everyone in favour to sign this petition and give their comments, please refrain from using obscene or offensive language as this is a serious matter that needs to be addressed correctly.

ALTHOUGH I`VE BEEN "THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE" I BELIEVE THAT SOME PEOPLE,UNDER SOME CIRCUMSTANCES, SHOULD BE PUNISHED ACCORDINGLY. BUT....BE AWARE...A GENUINE ACCIDENT IS JUST THAT.BUMP INTO SOMEONE AT WALKING SPEED AND THE RESULT IS NONE TOO DRAMATIC.AT DRIVING SPEED...WE ALL KNOW THE POTENTIAL OUTCOME!

The current Legislation and sentencing for taking a life by dangerous driving is nothing short of abhorrent- how many more lives need to be taken before reforms are made, so that realistic sentences can be passed? Nothing can be done to bring our loved ones back, but if a killer can not show remorse for what they’ve done, perhaps they could at least spend a few years reflecting on their stupidity and selfishness while their liberty is taken from them.

the person who did this is capable of doing this again, so lock him up for a long time and eventually, when he gets out make him stay a pedestrian for the rest of his life after all "a leopard never changes its spots"

A car is as much a lethal weapon as a gun, and should be treated with the same respect. Equally, someone who kills using a car, should receive an equivalent sentence to someone who kills using a gun. You don't hear of many gun-killers getting a fine and a slapped wrist. it is past time that this unbalanced situation was properly addressed.

The way road traffic deaths are treated by law seems to make them almost acceptable which is all wrong. Why should a death caused by dangerous driving be treated any differently to manslaughter. People these days are far too impatient and can cause tragedy just trying to save a few seconds on their journey.

the law had gone all wrong - pensioners geting sent to prison for not paying the unfair tax system yet people who are reckless and dangerous, killing people along the way are given fines and bans. This has to STOP. Justice has to be done for the sake of the grieving families and friends left behind.

I lost my partner (of 20 years) two months ago, when a young driver coming the other way was overtaking a car. The young man couldn't see what was ahead of him as he was blinded by the sun, but he just carried on. He went to pull in but there was a van parked on his side of the road, so he swerved to save himself veering into the path of my partner who was riding his motorcycle into work. David died before they could contact me. I am hoping the young man who caused this will get what he deserves, but doubt it will be enough. He had previously caused another accident but had recently retaken his test and got his license back. He has since been seen speeding through the village. After David was killed the young man shocked many people by his attittude as he was said to show no remorse in the hospital. I would like him to realise the full extent of what he has done, but I doubt he cares.

we live in a society where crimes such as dangerous driving need to addressed constantly and sentences made harsher if death is caused as a direct result which could have been avoided.
