A sculpture garden for Brandeis!
Published May 1, 2010
There have been a few ideas for what to do with the space in the Science Complex, including a four seasons garden, sand volleyball courts, and more parking space. But in addition, wouldn't it be great to to dedicate a portion of the space to a sculpture garden for student work?
Here's why:
1. It wouldn't cost the university much, because art students pay for most of their own supplies.
2. Right now, sculptures are displayed in the courtyard of Goldman-Schwartz. Not many people can see them because G-S is on the edge of campus.
3. Not every sculpture can fit inside Dreitzer Gallery during student shows. An outdoor setting would accomodate large scale work.

"When President Reinharz announced the postponement of Phase 2 of the Science Complex Renewal Project, the project team began working with Landworks Studio, the landscape architect for the overall project, to develop an interim concept for the site formerly occupied by Kalman and Friedland after those two buildings are removed.
The overall goals of this interim concept are to both heal the landscape wounds left by the demolition of the buildings and, in a highly cost-effective manner, to create a usable space that can be enjoyed by the entire Brandeis Community."
