Have passed this onto the President of the Incapaciated Servicemen & Women's Association of Australia (Inc)Qld Div.for submission at
their next meeting
after 23 years RAN I strongly agree with all comments.Gough Whitlam & his cronies have a to answer for. You will al notice the polititions have no proplem with their tax payer funded pensions.
With over 20yrs service and continuous payments to the DFRDB scheme, now to be the "beneficiary" of a depleted superannuation fund which has performed poorly AND is taxed as received is a poor reflection on our great country - especially when compared to other Super Schemes. The gross entitlement has barely doubled since retiring from service 20yrs ago! Govt treatment of the fund amounts to fraud!
I have written to The Hon Bruce Billson 3 times on this matter - basically accusing the Govt of fraud. I have also asked him to explain how a member of an "unfunded" scheme can be classified as a "Self Funded Retiree" - the 2 terms are complete opposites. Both questions have been ignored in all 3 responses by the Minister. Bernie McGurgan (No 11) has hit the nail on the head.
In the present climate it is indeed unfortunate we are/were members of our Defence Force & not fighting a religeous jihad, which would
then probably make us non-taxable
The government should meet its obligations in full as and when they incur them. Further due to type of service given to the country it should be more generous than that of everyday citizens
After 22 years sevice I was penalised 15% because Iwas under the notional retiring age for an officer. if I had tremained a Senior Sailor (12 years service through the ranks) I would have received 100% of my DFRDB rights. Don't rip me off again.
After 21 years service, was penalised 18% on DFRDB lump sum and pension due to being below the 'notional' retirement age. Am paying tax on remaining pension at my marginal rate.
After 21 years of Loyal and dedicated service to this fine land of ours I to thought my pension would be a substancial sum. However it's nothing like the $60,000 plus our Polies receive for 8 to 10 years of turning up to parliment to sleep through a session.Stick it to 'em and don't give up. Cheers Rusty
Another indinity by way of thanks from a grateful government. I thought my DFRDB Super would preclude me from an Aged Pension - NO WAY!! After 20 years service my DFRDB payment is a pittance.
Prior to the introduction too DFRB and DFRDB a "Gratuity or Gratuitious System", was in place, "Gift of money for services rendered". We had the insight, too be among the first in Australia in those days to have a vision and a recognized need, for self funding support, into to our twilight years. Mr Costello, among the first in Australia to be self funded a much needed instrument for todays Defence and Work place society. Thanks for nothing.
