Double dipping!!!!.
How come we pay tax on our wage during our service career and still pay tax on our retirement fund, when we depart the service. You could say tripple dipping as we pay tax also on our lump sum ?.
I would like to know where did the money go out of my pay every fortnight which was named DFRB deduction???
Can the treasurer explain what was that deduction for???
Having been with the RAAF during the DFRB/DFRDB changeover and an awareness of all the arguments submitted at that time I strongly support this Petition
As I understand it, the DFRB was totally self funded, and would be entitled to the July 2007 tax free pension arrangements. But in 1975, when Supply was blocked, as a matter of extreme urgency Whitlam/Labor invented DFRDB and simply stole the DFRB money to buy time. We were changed automatically from DFRB to DFRDB - we had no say in it and many didn't even know what had actually happened. The Government got millions and we got a system (DFRDB) that was no longer self funded. DFRDB Should be included in the legislation as a self funded scheme.
One struggles to believe that it is really Howard and Costello as opposed to Abbot and Costello. Like another comedian said "Another fine mess you've gotten us into!"
The arrogance shown by our politicians and their advisers towards those who have served their country, or are or will be serving their country in the Defence Forces, with respect to their laxck of recognition of those members' rights to expecting fair and equitable support (both financial and physical)for themsleves and their families post-service beggars belief.
I for one am so disgusted that I will be telling my Federal member that, unless he can assure me that our current Federal Government wil be taking notice of our complaints, and taking appropriate action, he will NOT be getting my vote next election. Also, as I am a member of a fairly active RSL Sub-branch, I will be encouraging othere members of my branch to do likewise.
It would be nice if they indexed the DFRDB pension with the Average Male Weekly wage like their own pensions are indexed, not against the CPI like our is. The AWE increases outstrip the CPI increases.
after 21 years compulsory contribution to the DFRDBfor a paltry return they want take more yet the pollies are quite happy to vote themselves favourable conditions for their super. Bah humbug!
Once again, Service men and Women are treated as second rate citizens, once you have served your Country, the Pollies have no further interest in you, In my case, 21 years should account for something. Come on Mr Treasurer, give us a break.
It is about time that ex-servicemen received a fair deal. How about fixing this anomaly before the new incentives to stay in the Services are legislated.
It sounded good when the Treasurer outlined his budget to Parliament. He did not mention the exclusion of Service men and woman from tax on DFRB pensions.
I recall th time in the early 1970's when a young army captain publicaly questioned the Federal Government's handling of our DFRB/DFRDBF and the manner in which we were being taxed. At that time and for many yeas after we referedto it a "double dipping" by the Federal Govrnment. Needless to sy that oficers career probably suffred. Let us hope Graham's effort meets better result.
