about time we all said something,we can unite and tell the government what we think through this petition.there is more strength when we all say the same in a very large loud voice
DFRDB contributions were a compulsary Condition of Service. Our pensions were to be the same, after reaching a qualifying period of time, i.e. 20 years service. Our pensions should be treated the same as the majority of Australian workers.
When will you stop ripping of all us ex service people and 1. give us the full cpi instead of using your own system.
We should be treated as fully funded retirees from the age of 55 and not be penalised tax wise as we are now.
Service pensions should not be taxed at all, we paid tax on the contributions we made at the time over our years of service. It is just another shabby way that ex servicemen and women are treated by the government of the day.
From my recollections, our DFRB & DFRDB contributions and extensive accumulated earnings were transferred to Consolidated Revenue by the Whitlam Government as a result of recommendations from the Kerr Report of the day. I believe that at the time these accumulated funds were quite significant and were capable of self supporting ex servicemen retirement pensions. The taking of these funds was a great injustice to the contributing servicemen and women. In fairness to politions of today, they may not be aware of what happened so long ago but it is time it was rectified.
For once, honour the servicemen and women of Australia and take care of them in their old age. we worked for years for less than average wages and were given no choice in regard to contributing to the DFRDB which were taxed.
I was there for my country for 20+ years. Where will my country be when I need it, from age 65 till ? In the 60's the pollies gave Consolidated Revenue from DFREB,$90,000,000. They did not give it to the service personnel whom paid it in, We are suppost to be self funded, The AMP would not get away with this. Politions are only mouth pieces to Public Servents, Not the People
After serving 20 years in the defence force I would expect to be able to retire on my service pension. But I have to work another job to be able to live and then my service pension disappears in tax. Politicians don't seem to have this problem and have not spent 20 years in politics to receive a liveable pension.
Considering what our Politicians and other Bureaucrats are entitled to, it's not only proper, it's also morally correct for them to support this petition.

I remember when, back in 1972, the then Government, revealed that the DFRB Fund (created by the DFRDB Act of 1943)had become too large to remain a public fund. It had sufficient funds to have become "non contibutary" for all previous, serving and future members.
It's assetts and its funds were absorbed into internal revenue and a new fund created under the DFR&DB Act of 1973, with each member "conributing" 5% of their salary.
Curiously, within 6 months of this occurring, an almost identical retirement fund was offered to all Commonwealth Public Servants (previously unfunded). Where did these funds come from, I wonder?
"Damned if you do and damned if you don't!"
Typical bloody government..doesnt really matter which side of politics, they are are all tarred with same brush, maybe we add a few feathers to the tar..
Want to fix Recruitment & Retention? Here's a good place to start. Let the public see that we treat our veterans and former members of the ADF as 1st Class citizens.
27Yrs in the RAAF and I agree it's time for a fair deal. F-111 Reseal / Deseal did not produce a "fair deal outcome", what about this one Mr Costello/ Mr Howard.
Is it not amazing that our pollies can vote themselves an unbelievable pension on one hand but continue to deny ex service men and women access to a few meagre dollars per fortnight for not a unbelievable but a liveable pension.
30 years and still serving - but only JUST.... if the politicians don't get their act together as there's more money to be made in civy street than there is in the bloody Military.!!!
