Why Mr. Howard you are willing to send the Defence Force out in support of other Nations but you as Leader of this Great Country Australia you want to totally forget the ex servce men and women.
I presume you will not pay tax on your super.
As a long time member of the RDFWA, I strongly urge the Government to take this submission seriously and rectify the long standing wrongs and the inequities that are addressed.
We earned our DFRDB for our 20yrs and over full time service and paid tax on it many times over, up to 48.5%in the dollar post our service careers, now that I am on a pension I still pay tax on my DFRDB. Give me us a break!
In principle so far as income tax is concerned what possible difference is there between DFRDB Superannuation payments(withdrawals from the fund made by COMSUPER for the benefit of respective individuals) and similar withdrawals from a self managed superannuation fund? Both relied upon capital build up from contributions by the individual made from income after tax . It's just discrimination against ex military service people, and it is not as though there is a huge budget implication involved!
A damn well researched and written paper. I can only hope that those highly paid folk in the nations capital might think of those who protected them there.
Governments have a responsibility to treat all citizens in a fair and equitable manner. Arbitrary assessments without full consideration of the facts are unfair.
Al DFRDB members payed contributions to the fund and had no option at the time but to pay into it. A fair and equitable treatment of these people is needed.
Perusal of my pay records would show contributions from me to the DFRB and DFRDB funds. The service pay records were computerized and the Treasurer can easily access them.
DFRDB should never have been touched. Soldiers, sailors and airman can die from the decision of a policition but looking after them is nothing more than economic rape.
Enjoy your generous super MP's of australia.
It's a pity that servicemen and women place their lifes on the line for 20 years plus for a pittance when politicians serve one or two terms and benefit from the Public Purse for the rest of their life! without changes to their Superanuation
