We the undersigned Jewish Canadians have read the motion before the United Church of Canada (GS 2 “Ethical Investment for Peace in Palestine and Israel”) and the submission by the Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC) to the UCC
• claiming to represent the Canadian “Jewish community”
• urging rejection of the proposed divestment motion GS 2 and its associated recommendations which are before the 39th General Council of the UCC.

We object strenuously that the CJC
• has presumed to speak in our names and those of other Canadian Jews from whom it has no mandate and
• threatens the UCC with rupture of relationships between the UCC and the Canadian Jewish community if the UCC makes the moral and ethical decision to accept GS 2.

We urge the UCC to follow its principled tradition of humanitarian and justice-oriented ministry and pass motion GS 2 thereby modeling that it is both possible and necessary to resist pressure tactics and threats.
