While rules exist for a reason, one must examine that reason for which rules exist in addition to the words that have made it into law. While the immigration system is large and complicated, one should not be blind to circumstances and potential gains or losses.
It is such a DISGRACE that we have to petition to keep our teacher in our schools.
The oldest profession in the world, and President Bush ( Mr.. NO CHILD SHALL BE LEFT BEHIND )
You take great teachers from our schools and you will be short changing our children my child
our future.
If the immigration officials admit he is not a criminal or a terrorist but they are just going along with procedure, why not give him a second hearing. If the court date was handwritten, there is great possibility that the date was not legible. There are not many teachers that students would speak so highly of unless they were truly an extraordinary human being. Please do not deport this man...give Mr. Auttouoman his day in court and the hearing he deserves.
This is a situation that requires attention to SPECIFICS and DETAILS not proceedure. We need to think about what the purpose of the proceedure of deportation really is. Is it really meant to remove members of American society who have dedicated themselves to helping educate the urban youth of America?
Already we face not only a shortage crisis of teachers in urban public schools, but a quality of teacher crisis. We can't afford to lose any of the excellent teachers we have.
Signed,
Lindsay Thomspon Goldsmith, a concerned urban public school teacher
Obain has been an inspiration for these students. Their campaign has been their first passionate participation in direct democracy. PLEASE DON'T MAKE IT A COLD-BLOODED BUREAUCRATIC FAILURE. All people do not need to be treated identically. It just takes more effort to be "equitable" as opposed to simplistically "equal." This is such an important lesson!
PLEASE DO NOT DEPORT MR. OBAIN ATTOUOMAN. HE IS A TEACHER AND A MENTOR IN THE BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM. MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES ON MANY YOUNG PEOPLE. PLEASE GIVE HIM THE CHANCE TO SPEAK FOR HIMSELF. KEEP HIM IN OUR SCHOOLS.
Please interced on behalf of Obain Auttouoman, a teacher at Fenway High School and Boston Arts Academy, who is being deported on the basis of misreading a hand-written court date.
By all accounts, Mr. Auttouoman is a model teacher and person.
At age 59 I have never before been so saddened and distubed by the current lack of fair play and assault on the liberties so many have died for as since President Bush has responded in fear to the September 11 attacks.
Isn't there an adult in the House?!
Please do not deport Obain Auttouoman, not just for the students, but because by deporting him unfairly, we are lessening what the United States of American stands for.
I don't thank it's right t otake him out of the School..the kid's need him.if you take him out of the School.the kid's will start acting out in the School. They will be very unhappy kid's please let him stay he's not bothing know one.Leave him allow.the people you need to both you don't.so don't bother him.Let him stay he's been here this long.so why send him away now.have a heart & let him stay.
Mr.Obain Attouoman is such a wonderful teacher whom has taught me a lot. As well as the entire Fenway/BAA community. He does not deserve to be sent back to the Ivory Coast no other teacher can replace him nor his many accomplishments as a teacher.
In this day in age where education is at the forefront of our struggle for democracy and freedom, it does not make sense to deport such an amazing teacher. Obain is greatly contributing in forging the furture of this country by providing an excellent teaching to its youth. To make the No Child Left Behind Act complete, we must also adhere to the "No Teacher Out Act".
Please let Obain stay and continue to educate our children
It is essential that the U.S. Immigration Department provide Mr. Auttouoman with a proper hearing before any move to deportation.
thank you,
steve seidel
Please let this man stay in the country. He would have had the right if he hadn't made a bureaucratic error. That's the only reason he's being deported. PLEASE let him stay.

IF Bush and Laura Bush truly value education and excellent teachers as they SAY they do, they will stop this Anti-American, anti-education action of deporting a loved, and exceptional public school teacher! Allowing him to be deported sends the wrong message to our young students and all citizens of this country. It is a farse!
Our nation is a harbor for refugees and welcoming place for those who want to serve children. Mr. Oubain is both. We need to protect his life and help our children. Thank you.
I am an educator in Jackson, WY, Dick Cheney's hometown. This is a travesty -- we need more impactful educators. Diversity fosters learning. Please do not deport Obain.
