I always used to argue that there are enough of US living at or below the poverty line, and that others gain twisted perspective outside of the U.S.A. mostly due to our military might. As I went to college with people of many different nationalities, I reamember enountering so many different questions like you especially when they witnessed the conditions of living for the poorest americans, and it breaks my heart. I live in NYC, I was near ground zero on 9/11 and had many friends who went to my old high school which is only a couple of miles away from the WTC site. I've seen that devastation but also understood that for years others have gone through the same thing, and it's only these events that have brought America on the page with the rest of the world, including the new passport laws that are going into effect. I feel there are solutions out there, but we're not always pursuing the right ones. We should seek the council of the global community instead of just being boastful and showing off. There's something to say about not being afraid, but there's something else in being cocky that doesn't sit well with the rest of the world. It is true. The economy is so bad in Mexico and C.America. I think we should try to be a little more understanding because if we were put in that situation, we'd probably do the same thing.

Illegal immigration can cause problems, but they come over here because they have to. They hardly earn anything down there, and there are hardly any jobs, and they are only trying to help their families and themselves. I know what I am talking about because I have lived in Mexico before. Some little kids as young as 5 have to work on the streets selling gum and candy just to help support their families. Now, if you were making $5 a day or less, what would you do?

Inchant, The point of this petition was to see if others felt that illegal immigration is out of hand in the U.S... Not start a troll war by some idiots that don't know anything about what they're talking about. I never really expected anything different nor did I expect any "intelligent" responses here. NOR did I expect anything substantial from this petition since “any” petition here is after all, bullshit. And although it may seem that I'm targeting Mexicans, they do make up 97% of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. illegally. The fact remains that these individuals strain an economic system already burdened by other factors. It's easy to sit within your own borders outside the U.S. and recite human rights and insist that these people deserve what they receive. But without experiencing the true impact first hand you have no right to lecture neither me nor anyone else about how illegal immigration should be handled. Suggesting letting this activity continue is to suggest we ignore law and let standards within the U.S. degrade to the point where our standard of living no longer exists. Standards that our ancestors fought for. To do anything less is to negate what they did. It’s irrelevant how we came to be here, we can do nothing to change that now.
