To whom it may concern,

Considering that ABC is a very large broadcasting company, you probably recieve many letters with ideas for shows. However, I ask you to please read through my idea concerning your current primetime show, Extreme Makeover Home Edition. If I did not think the idea was beneficial to you and your viewers I would not peruse asking this request. Let me introduce to you, the idea of EXTREME MAKEOVER SCHOOL EDITION.

I am very aware of the problem of run down schools with not enough funding throughout the country. Every day, students like myself attend school in buildings that are practically falling apart. One example of this unfortuante learning environment is my very own school. North Medford High School is the home of the Black Tornado. There is a certain level of pride within our students and teachers. However, it could be a lot higher.

First of all, we have an open campus with outdoor hallways, which causes many problems with the weather. In the spring, the hallways flood and makes it difficult to walk through on the way to class. Second, the school was built roughly 50 years ago and as you can imagine, it is getting outdated. The roofs are leaking, the cement walkways are under constant construction, and the dull brown paint is anything but pleasant. Not only that, but our textbooks are also outdated. I can't tell you how many times I have checked a text book out of the library, taken it home, and found torn pages with tape holding them together, missing pages, and covers coming off.

I believe that Extreme Makeover School Edition is a very good idea for the following reasons. There are many schools around the country that need desperate attention like mine does. No one deserves to learn in an environment that suggests that education is not important enough to recieve proper funding from the government. If they were to have a place where it would be fun and easier to learn, graduation rates would increase and as a result, dropout rates would decrease. This show would be a huge and significant change in students lives.

Not only would it affect people directly, but it would also grab the hearts of millions of Americans tuning in to see the show every week. Regular viewers of EMHE would no doubt watch the School Edition as well. A school is a very large place, and with children, word of mouth spreads very quickly. Family members of the students would watch the show, friends of the families, and even neighbors. Children have a desire to be known and if they have a chance for someone they know to see them or their school on television they will make it known. This will bring a much larger audience, meaning the ratings for the show and the station will boost.

There are many ways to go about setting up the way the show would run. A certain group of students, namely the ones who nominate their school to be on the show, could help with the renovation. Or, like it is done on EMHE, you can leave the construction up to your team and then bring in the entire school and community to see the result.

Thank you very much for your time. I hope that you like my idea and seriously consider it. I truly believe that it would affect many people in a positive way. I am very excited about this idea. If you have any questions regarding process, thoughts, ideas, set up, or further explanation, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Shelane Stromme

I support this petition. Had a pta mtg last night & after hard fundraising we're told still short $150,000. It really depressed me, & got into web to look for $$$ & found you. Our catholic school is in a lower income area where parents have to really struggle to pay low tuition. Besides being an old run down but clean school (but we do have unique teachers) we are in dire need of heating & air condition!! I think this idea would be the answer to our prayers..thankyouis a fantastic I am aaveschool You just

I support this petition. I live in a small middle class town that has three schools that were contaminated by WR Grace's vermiculite. The community has been actively seeking funding to rebuild the schools with no success. I love your idea and think it would make a lot more of an impact than remodeling people's homes. Deanna

My children attend a rural school, comprised of 2 campuses set 9 miles from each other, after lack of funding forced two school districts to combine. We have not enough buses, broken drinking fountains, grey walls, ancient, rough books, and generations of children learning in an uncomfortable and dismal environment. Our entire community would back a team of

Our High School Pool has recently been shut down by the fire department due to poor constructioning, also health/saftey problems such asbestos. We don't have the money to fix this mess ourselves because our school is already in heavy construction. Because of this tradgey, the schools swim team is forced to practice in different pools every week. This is struggle because of meets and afterschool practices. Everyday after school we will have to find our own rides to our practices which gets complicated. Without our own pool our team is not as a whole. We're losing all our team spirit and traditions. This new idea of Extreme Makeover School Edition is perfect for our situation and for others.
