Use open and non-proprietory formats. Also please remember that Microsoft has significantly reduced support for wmv on Mac -- so in reality you are only supporting one (American) manufacturer and one (American) operating system! Support your citizens not theirs.
Microsoft Windows Media is no longer officially updated for Macs. Linux, BSD and other non-Windows platforms have no official support. Please change to using a format that is available to all - now and in the future.
As a democratic institution, the EU council must use open formats to share information! I would understand them if there were no other options, but there is an alternative that's free and is not requiring users of free operating systems to use potentially illegal viewers in order to view their politicians!
It's a joke! On one hand they sue MS for forcing users to WMP in their OS, then they don't use the alternatives themselves. E.g. RealVideo is very cross-platform...
The wmv format is not even officially supported on the Mac platform. Only providing a proprietary format shows governmental support for the creator of said format. This after all that time in court with Microsoft...
They should support Linux in both a technical way and a legal way. There's nothing stopping them from doing that, unless they have some sort of obscure deal with Apple or Microsoft.
Beeing dependant of two amarican behemoths is not a very intelligent thing for the European economy, open source solutions are a feasible alternative now.
The EU has an obligation towards its citizens to provide open access to its public services. Using open standards should be the norm in all EU digital enterprises. It is not about excluding one platform, it is about providing for all platforms and treating all citizens equally.
Please use open and free standards. Ogg Theora is comparable in quality to Windows Media Video (WMV) and is freely available. If there are terms of exclusivity tieing you to WMV then I disapprove of your agreeing to them.
Being a customer of a private company, directly or indirectly, is currently a requirement for accessing your content. There are independent alternatives available. Please consider them.
Open documents in government must extend to all forms of transmission, which includes streamed media.
Restricting information access through use of proprietary technologies is risible and anti-democratic.
