Isn't the use of a proprietary format in contradiction with the EU's own competition laws?
Furthermore, the EU doesn't have to support ANY platform, they only have to support the streaming media format they choose to use, with a system-independent Java applet, for instance.
The European Union is funded by all members of the Union. How can the Council therefore deny the rights of their own people by streaming video in proprietary formats that are controlled by a company that has been deemed guilty of inappropriate behaviour by another part of the European Union
La burocracia de la Unión Europea no me puede obligar a utilizar un producto de una determinada empresa para poder disfrutar del acceso a la información al que tengo derecho, independientemente del sistema operativo de mi ordenador.
As an European citizen, I have the right to access to the public events at the Council, and this should be for free ! No need to by any operating system to do it.
We have elected the politicians and all of them want to be elected again. Why need users of non mainstraim OSs to be segregated? There are free formats and there is enough money available to realise an open stream.
The EU should be an example to all countries within the EU and in the world, by providing its content in a format that can be accessed easily and usefully. Open Standards are a vital part of this.
Council of the European Union should not be sales agent of Microsoft, forcing everybody to buy and use only MS software. Choose non-proprietary streaming method, available for different systems!
There is no reason to not support linux. I can think of many ways of creating streaming service that suppots both win, mac osx and linux. And I can bet with teh Europpean consil that I can do it with less money and more efficience that with their actual streaming system. So.. show some cleverness in the way you deal with OUR money, ok? This is a matter of respect. You cannot think in a "wizards ar simpler" kind of way....
Exclusive use of exclusionary, proprietary formats reduce the usefullness of the Streaming Service and it condemns at least that part of the EU to pernicious single vendor lock-in.
I would suggest that in addition to your current offering that you include at least one open source, open format streaming technology.
Are you in Microsoft's pocket?
No? Well that's the impression you are giving by insisting on using MS file formats exclusively.
To be seen to be open and impartial you need to act this way by supporting a large number of your citizens who have voted for you and without whom you would not be in office.
Use open source platform independent formats and show us that we can depend on you and that you will look out for us the 'little people'
I own a business where we are 100% Unix / VMS...
I am a european citizen..
why do I have to pay money to one of two american companies in order to view european material ?
This is simply unacceptable.
