Legal streamed video playback and Linux are not an impossible combination.
In my opinion, providing more coverage for the streaming would be more useful use of money than e.g. the stripped-down Windows variants EU has campaigned for.
I thought european documents had to be transcribed in all european languages. Do the same for video documents, use one of the esperanto of video format please.
Public services belong to those funding them; the European people.
So please, use a media format freely accessible by anyone, whether corporate-backed or OSS.
Your decision to use proprietary formats when there are better alternatives in the open-source community forces me to either spend outrages sums of money on software or brake the law and use pirated software. //Thankful Swede
Using open standards is the only way they can not be seen to be involved with Microsoft. You would have thought after the Anti Trust cases they would have at least look at this matter a bit harder.
Using a proprietary format means that accessing the public record requires payment to a private company. This is very shortsighted when there are plenty of alternatives. It also eliminates the benefits that competition brings.
Please do not support or worse require, proprietary formats; they are manipulated by the companies involved to their own advantage over the rights of their users. They represent a form of monopoly, and are entirely uncivil.
WMV is not the only option, you are supporting microsoft monopoly. Hire some competent IT-personel. Check out www.theora.org
It's very sad, if you can't even do a simple thing like this right.
I do not use windows as i do not agree with it and you should not, prevent me from seeing your sessions as a european citizen just becouse i use linux. you have a duty to make it reachable to any europe citisens, no mater what race, religion, nationality or OS they use, that's what you're elected there for by people.

The democratic process should be open to anyone, regardless which type of information device (be it paper, telephone, computer or TV aso) the viewer / reader / listener has in his/her possession in order to be able to take part in the democratic process.
There's no legal problem in streaming video in some format that is available for every platform, though Linux users may consider themselves the ways of their use of the service in discussion.
A ludicrous and derisory excuse that deserves to receive nothing but derision itself.
How can the Eurocrats be trusted to make important decisions regarding technology if they aren’t even educated enough to know there are many perfectly legal ways to stream content to Linux devices.
Or is this just lazy IT staff?
