The EU has phenomenal budgets, they should be used to ensure that all citizens of the EU have equal access to its publications, be they paper or electronic of any kind. The technology to provide platform agnostic streaming is readily available and inexpensive; there is no excuse for not using it, other than, perhaps, technical ignorance on the part of designers.
Mich würde mal interessieren wieviel Schmiergeld Microsoft dafür gezahlt hat.
Man müsste Geld sammeln gehen. Vielleicht kann jemand in Erfahrung bringen wer das Geld denn annimmt.
Dann sperren wir mal Microsoft Produkte aus.

Es kann nicht angehen, dass die EU einerseits von Microsoft verlangt, eine Windows-Version ohne Media Player herauszubringen, dann aber andererseits auf ein Streaming-Format setzt, das wiederrum jenen Media Player voraussetzt.
Davon abgesehen gibt es keinen einzigen Grund, Linux grundsätzlich auszusperren. Als Bürger der EU müssen wir ALLE die Möglichkeit haben, an Informationen ohne Umwege zu gelangen. Ansonsten verrät sich die EU selbst.
Statt freie Software zu unterstützen, sucht sich die Europäische Kommission genau „die Lösung“ welche eigentlich gemieden werden sollte. Unvoreingenommen schön reden reicht nicht mehr liebe Politikus fritzen, handelt endlich auch mal so, wie ihr uns die ganze zeit versprechen tut!!
man könnte meinen die Luft zum atmen wäre überall frei verfügbar (wie zb. Linux), aber nein, manche nehmen lieber Sauerstoffflaschen und bezahlen auch noch den mit nichts zu rechtfertigenden preis (M$). das aber früher oder später dann die Luft „ausgeht“, darüber wird erst nach dem ersticken nachgedacht.
Aber was rede ich nur für wirres zeug, es ist ja unser Geld... da darf man ja ruhig verschwenderisch sein, oder !?
Warum wurde dann eigentlich Microsoft von der EU-Verklagt, ihre Codes freizugeben, oder hab ich "doofer"EU-Bürger u. Steuerzahleretwas wiedermal nicht richtig verstanden?
Es gibt keine ernst zu nehmende Begründung, Nutzer anderer Betriebssysteme auszusperren. Auch wenn man Theora noch nicht als mögliche Alternative in Betracht zieht, so lassen sich weit verbreitete MPEG-4 Implementationen nicht leugnen! Auch sollte derartiger Content problemlos hinter einem gängigen HTTP Proxy verwendet werden können.
Die Argumentation der EU-Verantwortlichen ist haltlos und plump. Sie entbehrt jeglicher Grundlage! Niemand soll dazu gezwungen weden ein bestimmtes Produkt zu kaufen!
Schoen für Microsoft und ihre Kunden. Wenn man bedenkt, dass die Europaeische Kommission fuer einheitliche Standarts im europaeischen Miteinander sorgen will, dann heisst dies, dass sie Microsoft Windows fuer den Standart haelt. Pech fuer den Rest. Nun denn, soll sich die Windows-Media-Player Gemeinde daran erfreuen. Mich erreicht die EU damit ( einmal mehr ) nicht !!
What about poeple, who don't have the money to buy the operating systems of the supported vendors? The stream should be vendor independent, so everybody is able to see it.
It is a shame for a (European) "community" to support certain companies instead of open source platforms!

GNU/Linux und Open Source sind eine Chance für Europa, sich von Abhängigkeiten, insbesondere von US-Konzernen zu lösen. Hat nicht die EU-Kommission eine XP-Version ohne MS-Media-Player verlangt? Damit man ihn sich bei Ihnen downloaden kann oder muss, um wieder ein vollwertiger EU-Bürger zu werden? Freie Dateiformate sind für Plattformunabhängigkeit bekannt, sind für jeden frei verfügbar und sollten nach Möglichkeit immer die erste Wahl sein. Ich bezweifle, dass Sie es "nicht können".

Please provide your services using open and non-discriminatory standards. Even a service which nobody is forced to use is important, especially if considering the EU commission's troubles of forcing Mirosoft to conform to EU laws.
Using the formats Microsoft creates in citizen information platforms actively undermines the widespread use of truly open formats and open standards.
Nothing has changed in the mind of the world. This has been already noticed in Animal Farm: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.".
I hope, that the IT department of the European Council is just a bit helpless and unable to deploy any open and widespread standard. A "legal reason" for not using Linux/BSD like mentioned in the FAQ is just a stupid excuse and totally missing any legal reason at all.

Anyway when do we call it the "MS-European Union"? On the one hand the EU insists on a Windows without preinstalled MS-Mediaplayer on the other hand it ONLY supports MS-Mediaplayer. Is there ANYBODY knowing what he is doing, or are you just lazy?!

The only way to communicate with these 490 million people is not to lock them in to proprietary formats but to use free and open standards. Obwohl die diversen Bundesländer Deutsachlands auf Linux umsteigen, unterstützt die EU nur das Windows Mediaplayer Format? Warum nicht Real, Ogg oder ein ähnliches Format?
