Como ciudadano europeo, parte de mis impuestos están destinados a dar soporte a este servicio. Por tanto, exijo que este servicio no requiera pagar obligatoriamente a una empresa privada por un software privativo que lesiona mis derechos.
EU MUST support open standards in ALL electronic communication. The choice to use WMV is done by some IT provider and therefore their contract should be terminated.
The comments from the EU are ridiculous! How can they seriously consider that a stance of using restricted proprietary technology is a valid approach that doesn't add to Microsoft's near-monopoly status. There are plenty of open options supported on all platforms including Windows.
You cannot be that superficial about "legal" problem with Linux and not explicitly state why it is not possible. EU is about many nations sticking together, and that cannot be but with openness in mind.
Governments should use Open standards.
Democracy? We do not pay them our taxes so that they can market for software companies. Citizens should not be forced to buy particular brands of software.
The European Union can't in good conscience claim to act for all of its citizens when it puts commercial interests ahead of the ability for its citizens to access information. Reconsider your streaming policy immediately.
The choice between a free standard and a "dominant implementation" is not always easy. But because of accessibility to ALL citizens of the EU, only the choice for the free standard is acceptable for services that are fundamental to democracy.
Public information by EU authorities is funded by tax money. Therefore it is the duty of those authorities to make this accessible to everyone. There is no place for proprietary standards in tax-funded organisations.
What is the meaning behind using a proprietary format for broadcasting this video? The Ogg Theora project is open and viable for this use, and also open for all major platforms in use. Please reconsider!
No public establishment should restrict their information-service. Denying the possibility for streaming with open-source operating systems is in my opinion discrimination.
A truly open society would use an open format. As a citizen of the EU, it shames me to find only closed and proprietary formats supported. The tools of democracy should be for and by the people, free from tangles of monetary interest.
Please unlock the streams so that I can watch them whitout buying into Microsofts illigal monopoly (as defined by both the US government and by the EU).
I find this very odd. The EU forced Microsoft to develop a version of Windows without Media Player, due to Microsoft having a monopoly in the media player market. As a citizen of the UK I find the Council of Europe's decision to use a Microsoft codec for it's streaming service completely bizarre.
It is in the interests of the EU and its member nations to support diversity and competition especially in technology based industries.
It makes no intellectual or economic sense to continue to support such a duopoly minded multimedia content distribution system.
as a citizen of the EU I think I have a right to take part of its communications without requiring me to buy a certain product from a certain vendor. It's bad enough that MS thumbs its nose a the EU but to be driven into their arms by our collective government is really unacceptable.
