No WMV support is just ridiculous. Especially the EU, which is there for "everybody", should support something "everyone" can access, instead of being forced to use commercial software.
This information should be viewable by everybody, not just users of expensive software. Open formats are free to use, why does our government require us to use other formats?
I think, that EU should support open standards. Especially in the area of publishing the information of big value for EU citizens.
Keeping of the important information in proprietary formats depending on private companies (even worse - not european companies) should be at least discouraged.
It is valid not only for users of the Linux OS, but also of other open operating systems.
PS. I use mainly Linux OS in my work (as a researcher & acedemic teacher) and at home.
The EU should support free formats. There are people using other operating systems than Windows and OS X. There's Linux, BSD, BeOS out there. There's Solaris and other OS's that require attention.
Mon ordinateur tourne sous Debian (GNU/Linux), je ne trouve pas normal de devoir acheter MacOS ou Windows pour lire ces flux.
Utiliser des codecs libres tels Ogg Theora est une solution !
There exist plenty of open video formats, well supported under all available OS. And even non-open ones, as Real Media. So for the sake of non-discrimination, use one of these.
I'm Dutch resident and a fulltime software developer. I oppose strongly of being deprived of my liberty to use the operating system of my choosing for watching the Streaming Services which are intended to be a service to me, a European citizen. Especially, as the European council is there to protect, and not undermine, my liberties, which I value highly!
I urge the European council to accept and support the existence of Linux, my operating system of choice for work and personal life and to accept that Linux already is a reality in contemporary Europe.
