Bravo pour la discrimination !!
faut-il encore s'étonner du non à la constitution européenne après un tel manque de respect à l'interopérabilité ??
Quelle peut encore être la partialité du conseil lorsque "légalement" elle ne peut supporter Linux
?
Honte a vous !!
Shame on you !!
A really bad joke. Why fighting against Microsofts build-in programs and still use a properitary video format?! It sounds stupid, but there are many better video formats than wmv. And they are FREE for use!
Transparency may not be an absolute right for the EU citizen, but discriminating against people who do not buy from specific software vendors is plain stupid to anyone who thinks about it.
I have e-mailed the Council about this on 22 December 2005, and the Finish authorities in charge of their European Presidency of the Council on 5 June 2006. No replies.
There are no good reasons not to use an open standard to make this content available.
Incompetence at its finest. This is not a question of "Linux compatibility," and does the core issue a disservice when framed as such -- rather, why would any democratic government entity choose one company's proprietary encoding format when documented standards are available?
European Union : Unity in the diversity.
The European citizen should have the right to have a O.S. that they want. Especially when it's a european O.S.
Encouraging the use of Linux is a positive way to improve the economies of Europe - essentially of any country that uses Linux.
I am not going to spend money to downgrade my computers from Linux to use a Microsoft 'operating system'.
However, I should still be able to access streaming video - my hardware is more than ample: dual core AMD64 processors and 4 Gig of RAM.
I bought a PC for my son out of the money I saved by nt buying Microsoft products, instead using Linux and other Open Source software products such as OpenOffice.org!
Linux can be supported in a legal way because the EU makes the laws. But in this case we are just barking at an windos admin that decided to rub some linux users the wrong way.
I cannot believe that you cannot support Linux. WILL NOT support Linux may be the thruth, but commercial sites such as youtube and google video work just fine with Linux. I suspect someone has been "paid" to make this decision.
European Union is about cooperation, development and most importantly freedom. There is no freedom with proprietary standards and formats.
Using non-free standards on the EU site is pure hypocracy.
Please explain the "Linux cannot be supported in a legal way".
If an institution with the power and funding of the European Commision really wants to get something done; that can always be arranged.
Aren't you using "legal necessaties" as an excuse for laizyness?
Free Codecs for free citizens of a free and united europe.
The decision of the EU Council for WMV is a demonstration of bureaucracy's ignorance. But ignorance is no excuse!
Me gustaría que que el dinero público dejase de gastarse en ofrecer falsas coartadas para discriminar a parte de la población, ya sea en el mundo físico, ya en los mundos virtuales
