In view of the emphasis on European competitiveness, interoperability, the rise of OSS and the underlying legal issues should be high on the Council's agenda.
Why would you limit the viewing of your meetings to the people who wish to support you? This is outrageous! It is a simple task to distribute your meetings in an open video format, it would be better for everyone.
Please use a non proprietary format, that everyone can use. WMV is NOT an open standard, not unless Microsoft would like to publish the full specifications for it and grant a patent free, user free, user license to EVERYONE.
Use Ogg Theora or another open codec please. This is not only easier to support but can also be viewed by *everyone*, not just the select few. Surely the current state of affairs breaches the EU constitution!
I could cry.. When Vista comes out - everything will be dark. The hardware manufactuerers will have to include APIs for Vista - who knows how they look like - probably only MS and the companies themselves...
Not only are desktop Linux users unable to use this service, but also other users of older or non-standard hardware e.g. set-top boxes which only have access to open standards
Its absolutely unbelievebale that a big institution like the UE doesnt allow Linux users to see their videos, and also to use the MS codec above all !!!
Its not a democratic act, i hope it will change soon.
Its sad to see that lobbies are controling the UE institutions.

I cannot believe a group that shunned Microsoft so much and even filed a suit against Microsoft would take a line that forces everyone to conform to one or two OS environments. Sounds like a monopoly to me.
Proprietary file formats are a major obstacle to the broader adoption of GNU/Linux. Remember: Competition is good for business; Proprietary denies choice.
Using free and open standards for communication is absolutely essential if we want any competition in the IT-industry. Please rethink the streaming service and use an open stardard. Big public institutions are supposed to set examples that others can follow. Make sure you have chosen correctly.
this is forcing people to buy/use windows, and a kind of discrimination among other OS'es users!
Political video stuff shall be free, like democracy and freedom!
Je pensais pourtant que l'europe cherchait à promouvoir le libre...
On a tous le droit d'acceder à l'information! J'utilise windows mais je trouve ce choix inadmissible de la part d'une institution.
